And so she remained, bewildered. Then the other thief put his head into a ditch and swam with the current. When he reached the other side, he climbed onto the boat and said to the girl, "I'll kill you, don't make a sound!" She was so frightened that she didn't say a word. And he went away with her, enjoying himself. He began to shout, "O knowledgeable ones, the other thief has gone away with her, enjoying himself!" The guards said, "When he was enjoying himself, she didn't say a word, and now that he's gone away enjoying himself, where shall we look for him?" The guards told the king what had happened. The king said, "Not catching him was a bad thing to do." The girl, having enjoyed herself with the thief, became pregnant, and after eight or nine months, she gave birth to a boy. When the other thief heard this, he thought, "I can't let my son's birth go by without a celebration." So he disguised himself as a woman of the inner palace, came out of the king's palace, and told those who lived by selling yogurt, "O knowledgeable ones, the divine oracle commands you to plunder the market!" Those people thought, "The king's prince has been born, so he's letting us plunder the market." When they began to plunder, there was a loud and great noise, and the king said, "What is that?" The ministers explained in detail. He said, "If that's the case, then I too have been deceived by him. I must either give up the kingdom or have him executed!" Thinking this, he had the courtyard walls built up, dug a small hole, and instructed the ministers, "O knowledgeable ones, have it proclaimed throughout the country: All the men who live in the country, without making excuses, must gather in the courtyard! Whoever does not come will be executed!" The ministers had it proclaimed, and all the men living in the country gathered. Then the king gave the boy a garland of flowers and instructed him, "Give this to whoever is your father."
