The Nyagrodha garden was offered. The Blessed One dedicated the merits with a voice endowed with five qualities: With whatever merit of generosity there is, may the Shakya people's thoughts, the hopes in their hearts, be fulfilled, and may they attain the state of permanence. Then, the Blessed One resided in the Nyagrodha garden of Kapilavastu. Similarly, the elders also recorded in the sutras: The Blessed One resided in the Nyagrodha garden of Kapilavastu. The Blessed One resided in Kapilavastu, one day taking meals in the royal palace, and one day taking meals in the harem. King Suddhodana saw the monks who had renounced from the ascetics, their conduct was peaceful and their minds were joyful, but he felt that their bodies were emaciated and not dignified due to the severe ascetic practices. He thought: These renunciates, although their conduct is peaceful and their minds are joyful, but their bodies are not dignified, what kind of retinue would make the Blessed One more dignified? He pondered: The retinue of the Shakya clan would do. Then, he gathered all the Shakya people and said: Wise ones, if Prince Siddhartha had not renounced, what would have happened? He would have become a Chakravartin king. You would have become his subjects, serving him. Now that Prince Siddhartha has become the supreme Dharma king, why do you not serve him? Who wants to renounce? Will everyone renounce? One from each family. According to your command. Then, King Suddhodana issued a proclamation in the city of Kapilavastu: The king commands that all Shakya people residing in my country must have one person from each family renounce. At that time, the grain merchant had two sons, one named Anuruddha and one named Mahanama. Mahanama was particularly diligent in cultivating the fields. Anuruddha lived in the upper palace, enjoying music without women, playing and having fun, indulging in joy. Mahanama's mother said to him: Son, the king has ordered a proclamation, the Shakya people

They ordered that one person from each family should become a monk, you become a monk! He said: I will not become a monk, ordain your beloved and happy son! Do not compete with that being with great merit and power! Mother, the one you like is the one with great merit and power! Do not send him anything today, and see whether having great merit and power is good or not. Son, do as you are told, and have faith! He filled empty boxes with pottery, wrapped them with white cloth, sealed them with seals, and handed them to the maid, instructing her: If anyone asks what is inside, say that there is nothing inside. She took it and left. Because the wisdom of Indra, the lord of the gods, can see everything, he thought: Why should the food offered to the Pratyekabuddha, who knows everything, be lacking food today? I will add food to it. So he filled those pottery with various kinds of beans, vegetables, delicious flavors, and food. When the maid took it to the presence of the Non-Regressing One, he said: Daughter, what is in there? She said: Young man, there is nothing at all. The Non-Regressing One thought: If she doesn't love me, why would she send me these empty things? She probably sent some kind of inedible thing, let me see first! As soon as he opened the lid, the entire garden was filled with the fragrant smell of food. The Non-Regressing One took it and was very surprised. Because he respected his mother, he sent the best food to his mother, saying: Each country sends this kind of food called 'nothing at all.' She also saw it and was very surprised. She showed it to Mingchen and said: Son, do you see? Mother, I see. Didn't I tell you before not to compete with that being with great merit and power, that blessed person? He said: Mother, whether he has great merit and power or not, I will not become a monk anyway. Mingchen lived like that.

Under no circumstances can renunciation be permitted. Then he said to Avinivartaniya: Son, if the king orders a proclamation that one out of each Shakya family must renounce, will you renounce? Or will you stay at home? He said: Mother, what are the benefits of renunciation? What are the disadvantages? What are the benefits of staying at home? What are the disadvantages? Son, if you practice well after renouncing, you will attain Nirvana. If you do not practice well, you will attain gods and humans. If you stay at home and protect well, you will attain gods and humans. If you do not protect well, you will attain hell beings, as well as animals and hungry ghosts. Mother, the disadvantages of renunciation are the benefits of staying at home, therefore, do not stay at home, please allow me to renounce. He said: Son, okay, do so. Avinivartaniya's nephew was the Shakya king Sānu, so he went to him. At that time, the Shakya king Sānu was playing the lute, and as he played the lute, the string broke and the sound changed. Avinivartaniya was skilled at playing the lute, so he remembered what the sign of the sound change was like, and then he sat at the door and said to the gatekeeper: Hey, inner minister, go and tell King Sānu that Avinivartaniya wants to see the divine face, so he is waiting at the door. The gatekeeper went and told the Shakya king Sānu: Lord, Avinivartaniya wants to see the divine face, so he is waiting at the palace gate. He said: Who can stop the wise Avinivartaniya? Let the wise Avinivartaniya come in. After he entered, he came to the king, sat down, and said: How long have you been here? He said: It was when you were playing the lute, the string broke, and the sound changed. He was very surprised and said: You are skilled at playing the lute. The Shakya king Sānu said: Young man, what is the purpose of your coming? Avinivartaniya said: Lord, King Śuddhodana has ordered a proclamation that one out of each Shakya family must renounce, please know this, I want to renounce. King
