What kind of person is the king who enjoys wealth! I must take his life. Then he thought, what can I do with the kingdom I get by killing the king? So he said in verse: If things don't work out, wishes will change; if things work out, wishes will not change. If it doesn't work out, you will become poor, so things are not things. As the night was coming to an end, he felt regret, got out of bed, spread the rough mat on the ground and slept. When it dawned, the king said: Wise men, bring that Brahmin boy! I will give him half of the kingdom. The king's messengers came and saw him coming down from the tall bed and spreading the rough mat on the ground to sleep. After seeing it, they felt distrust and went to the king and said: Your Majesty, this person is not suitable to inherit the throne. The king said: Why? They said: Your Majesty, he abandoned the luxurious big bed and likes the lowly behavior of spreading a rough mat to sleep. How can you give him the throne? The king said: Wise men, this smart man must have a reason, bring him here! After they brought him, the king said: Hey, Brahmin boy, why did you get out of the big bed and spread the rough mat on the ground to sleep? He told the king what had happened, and then said: Your Majesty, please allow me to be ordained. The king said: Make a vow, if you are ordained, if you can tell me the merits and wisdom you have realized, I will allow you. He promised: I will do that. Then, he went to a quiet place, without a Khenpo and Acharya, he realized Bodhi by himself and became a Pratyekabuddha. He thought: I promised the king before, I should go and tell him what I promised. So he came to the king and appeared in the sky, and began to show burning, light, rain, lightning and other miracles. The king hugged his feet and said in verse: What good deeds did you seek to be ordained? The Brahmin boy found it, found it well, produced by small karma, the special near-going is very big

Oh, understand this here. A barber named Ganga-pāla of King Brahmadatta came, and he interrupted (the king's words) with beautiful verses, had (the king) remember them, and said: Ganga-pāla, please remember the verses (I said) to me again and again. The barber Ganga-pāla was very skilled in his craft, so when he trimmed the beard of King Brahmadatta, the king would fall asleep, and he (Ganga-pāla) would wake the king up with a bell. After waking up, (the king) would say: Ganga-pāla, ask for whatever you want, and then (the king) would give a reward. At that time, (Ganga-pāla) said: Your Majesty, I have a request. When Ganga-pāla reminded the king of the verses (he said), the king would not even put his mind on words of desire, let alone be attached to desire and actions. He would not even look at the queens. The queens, deluded by afflictions and attached to (the king), said to Ganga-pāla: Uncle, when His Majesty the King bestows a reward upon you, if His Majesty is pleased with me, please explain the meaning of this verse in detail. The king explained the meaning of that verse in detail, and that rescued one (Ganga-pāla) knelt on the ground and said: Your Majesty, I have been treated with hospitality, and I will go forth from home to homelessness. The king said: If you renounce and gain even a small amount of merit, let me know. He said: Your Majesty, I will report as you command. He went among the ascetics, and after renouncing, he directly realized the five superknowledges. He thought to himself: I had previously promised King Brahmadatta, I should go and tell him what I promised. So, he went to where King Brahmadatta was, and after arriving, he appeared in the sky above and began to perform miracles of burning, shining, raining, and lightning. Ordinary people easily believe in miracles, and (the king) will surely kneel on the ground and say: Holy one, have you realized such merit? (Ganga-pāla) replied: Yes, I have realized it. King Brahmadatta knelt at the feet of the ascetic Ganga-pāla, causing the earth to shake in six ways. And his

The mother spoke in verses: Brahma-dana (Tshangs sbyin), the wise one, here the woodcutter Lagtsa (lags tsha dga'), having placed him, ordained in this, it is not the way a god should pay homage. The mother of King Brahma-dana, in order to make him understand, spoke in verses: Thus, the bases taught by the capable one, he has practiced these austerities, whoever has become of great wisdom, do not speak lightly of the one who nurtures the Ganges. The power of asceticism subdues all sins, the power of asceticism subdues all worlds, the power of asceticism destroys the woodcutter's tools, do not speak lightly of the burning asceticism. Monks, what do you think? The king named Brahma-dana at that time was none other than this Bhadra (bzang ldan). The sage named Ganga-poshaka (Ganga-skyong) was none other than this Niba-khora (Nye ba 'khor). Then, when the Shakya king Bhadra became Brahma-dana, Niba-khora, having become the sage named Ganga-poshaka, from the time of paying homage, there was a shaking in six ways. Now also, after Bhadra paid homage to Niba-khora who had become ordained, there was a shaking in six ways. Section on Retinue.
