They reported, "You have cut off all our livelihoods, so please be compassionate! We can work as laborers in your monastery. We have lived here for a long time, and we cannot abandon our homeland." The Venerable Śāriputra entered into meditative contemplation, thinking, "Do these beings have any roots of virtue, or do they not?" He saw that they definitely did. He wondered, "Upon whom do they depend?" Thinking, "They depend solely upon me," he resolved and said, "What obstacle is there for that householder? Let it be done in that way!" When they began to work as laborers in that monastery, the Venerable Śāriputra conjured up a fierce man holding a whip and definitely set them to work. The Venerable Śāriputra, knowing the time for their taming, walked and sat in a nearby grove. When they saw him, they thought, "He is alone, now is the time to kill him!" So they ran to him and sat around him. The Venerable Śāriputra thought, "With what kind of intention have these beings come to my presence?" When he knew that they had come with the intention to kill him, he withdrew the conjured whip and made them resolve to start working now. They said, "Noble Śāriputra, please protect us!" He said, "Venerable ones, go and rest for a while!" They said, "This person is so great! We intended to kill him, but he is so loving towards us," and recognizing this, they developed faith. Then, the Venerable Śāriputra, knowing their thoughts, predispositions, faculties, and nature, taught them the Dharma in such a way that they would each realize the four noble truths. Having heard this, they shattered the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, directly realized the fruit of stream-entry, and having seen the truth, they said, "Venerable one, if we could receive the going forth and full ordination as monks in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, we would practice celibacy in the presence of the Venerable Śāriputra."

Now I will do it. The venerable Shariputra, after having thoroughly ordained and fully ordained them, gave instructions. Through diligence, effort, and exertion, they realized the moving and unmoving five-part wheel of samsara. All aspects of conditioned phenomena are suppressed by the nature of decay, fall, dissipation, and destruction, thereby abandoning all defilements, realizing the Arhatship, becoming Arhats, free from the desire of the three realms, with dung and gold being equal, the sky and the palm of the hand being the same, possessing a mind like sandalwood and cow dung. With wisdom, they cracked the shell of ignorance, obtaining wisdom, supernormal powers, and individual self-realization. They are not attached to the gains of existence and desire, and they turn their backs on reverence. They are to be worshiped, remembered, and openly praised by the gods, including the gods and near-gods. Then, the venerable Shariputra held one end of the temple's ink line, and the householder Anathapindika held the other end, and the venerable Shariputra began to smile. The householder Anathapindika said: Venerable Shariputra, the Tathagatas or the Shravakas of the Tathagatas do not smile without cause or reason. Venerable Shariputra, for what cause and reason do you smile? Householder, it is indeed so, it is indeed so. The Tathagatas or the Shravakas of the Tathagatas do not smile without cause or reason. As you hold the ink line here, a golden mansion has also been accomplished in the Tushita heaven. Then, the householder Anathapindika, with eyes wide open in amazement, said: Venerable Shariputra, if that is so, for that reason, I will also stretch the ink line and generate even more faith. The venerable Shariputra again held the ink line, and the householder Anathapindika, with even greater joy and faith, generated faith. At the very moment of that faith, a golden mansion of four kinds of jewels

Having completed the work, the venerable Śāriputra also understood it. Then, the householder Anāthapiṇḍada, with an ever-increasing power of merit, began to build sixteen great monasteries and sixty small houses. He built the sixteen great monasteries and sixty small houses, and adorned them with all kinds of things. Then, he went to where the venerable Śāriputra was, and upon arriving, he said to the venerable Śāriputra: "Venerable Śāriputra, if the Blessed One were to travel, how far would the journey be?" "Householder, it would be like the journey of a wheel-turning king." "How far does a wheel-turning king travel?" "Householder, a wheel-turning king travels a distance of ten yojanas in one day." Then, the householder Anāthapiṇḍada calculated the distance from Śrāvastī to Rājagṛha, and had resting places cleaned. He had alms-giving houses cleaned. He appointed people to provide meals. He decorated with umbrellas, victory banners, and flags. He sprinkled with sandalwood water. He arranged very fragrant incense burners. He had horse resting places cleaned. He also had seasonal medicines prepared. Having accumulated such resources, he instructed a man: "Hey, chamberlain, come here. Go to where the Blessed One is, and with my words, bow with your head to the Blessed One's feet, and ask if he is well, if he has few illnesses, if he is comfortable and at ease, if he is strong and healthy. And say this: 'Please, Blessed One, go to Śrāvastī. Blessed One, together with the Sangha of monks, as long as I live, I will serve you with robes, food, bedding, and medicine for sickness.'" The man replied: "Yes, master, as you command." That man departed from the householder Anāthapiṇḍada and set out for Rājagṛha, gradually arriving at Rājagṛha. Then, having recovered from the fatigue of the journey, he went to where the Blessed One was, and upon arriving, he bowed with his head to the Blessed One's feet.
