is your teacher. You are my disciple. Kashyapa, I am your teacher. You are my disciple. Kashyapa, sit down as is your own seat. Then, the venerable Lotus Growth Kashyapa bowed his head to the two feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. Then, the Brahmins and householders of Magadha thought to themselves: The great ascetic does not practice the pure conduct of Lotus Growth with matted hair, but Lotus Growth with matted hair practices the pure conduct of the great ascetic. Then, the Blessed One spoke to King Bimbisara of Magadha: Great King, form also has birth and destruction, and its birth and destruction should be known. Great King, feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness also have birth and destruction, and their birth and destruction should be known. Great King, a son of good family, having known the nature of the birth and destruction of form, completely knows that form. Great King, a son of good family, having known the nature of the birth and destruction of feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness, completely knows that consciousness. Great King, if a son of good family completely knows form, he does not accept form as self or belonging to self, does not cling to it, does not particularly abide in it, and does not manifestly cling to it. Great King, if a son of good family completely knows feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness, he does not accept it as self or belonging to self, does not cling to it, does not particularly abide in it, and does not manifestly cling to it. Great King, if a son of good family does not accept form as self or belonging to self, does not cling to it, does not particularly abide in it, and does not manifestly cling to it, it is said that he has passed beyond immeasurable and countless suffering.

Since form is not self, and neither are feeling, thought, formation, nor consciousness, then who is the self, the sentient being, the life, the one who is born, the one who nourishes, the person, the one born of strength, the offspring of strength, the doer, the one who causes to do, the knower, the one who knows completely, the solicitor, the one who solicits completely, the speaker, the feeler, the one who feels completely—whoever that is, has never appeared, will never appear, and is not present now. Then, who will individually experience the ripening results of the virtuous and non-virtuous actions done in this and that, and who will abandon this aggregate and connect with another aggregate? Then, the Blessed One, knowing the minds of the Brahmins and householders of Maga with his wisdom, spoke to the monks: Monks, the so-called "self" is what is clung to by ignorant ordinary people who have not heard the Dharma; there is no "self" or "mine" here. Monks, when there is birth, this suffering arises, and when there is cessation, suffering also ceases. When there is birth, formations arise, and when there is cessation, formations also cease. Dependent on that cause and condition, the continuum of formations of sentient beings continues. Monks, the Thus-Gone One, having understood the continuum of the connection of formations, thus determines the death and birth of sentient beings. Monks, with my pure, superhuman divine eye, I see the death and birth of sentient beings, good color, bad color, inferior, superior, good realms, and bad realms. Knowing sentient beings who go according to their actions, these sentient beings are endowed with misconduct of body, endowed with misconduct of speech and mind, slander the noble ones, hold wrong views, and due to the karma of wrong views and the Dharma they have taken, after the destruction of the body and death, they fall into bad realms, bad paths, wrong views, and are born in the hells of sentient beings. These sentient beings are endowed with good conduct of body, endowed with good conduct of speech and mind,
