The path was extensively explained. Just as a clean, spotless cloth, when placed in a suitable dye, can be well-dyed, similarly, while the head of the householder's family was sitting on that very seat, he realized the four noble truths, namely suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path. When that teaching was being expounded, the head of the householder's family developed a stainless and immaculate Dharma eye towards all phenomena. The venerable Ghrāṇa, also, being adorned with all ornaments, without attachment, his mind was completely liberated from all defilements. Then, the Blessed One withdrew the manifestation of miraculous powers. At that time, he spoke in verse: "Adorned with ornaments, practice the Dharma, disciplined and truly restrained in pure conduct, abandoning harm to all beings, that is a Brahmin, a Śrāmaṇa, a Bhikṣu." At that time, there were six Arhats in the world, and the seventh was the Blessed One. The head of the householder's family saw the youth Ghrāṇa sitting on that very seat. Having seen him, he said to the youth Ghrāṇa: "Youth, come here! You are completely exhausted and your body is weary, lamenting, go home." Then, the Blessed One said to the head of the householder's family: "Householder, what do you think? With the knowledge of non-learning and the vision of non-learning, realizing the four noble truths, namely suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path, can one remain a householder dwelling at home, enjoying desires with accumulated possessions?" "No, venerable one." "Householder, just as you realize the four noble truths, namely suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path, with the knowledge of learning and the vision of learning, similarly, the youth Ghrāṇa also realizes the four noble truths, namely suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path, with the knowledge of non-learning and the vision of non-learning." "Venerable one, by what means does the youth Ghrāṇa realize the four noble truths, namely

Thus, suffering, origination, cessation, and the path to manifest realization are well attained. It would be good if the Blessed One, with compassion and affection for the ascetic named Grakpa who follows him, would go to the house of the head of the clan. The Blessed One granted this without saying anything to the householder, the head of the clan. Then, the householder, the head of the clan, realizing that the Blessed One had granted his request without saying anything, bowed his head to the feet of the Blessed One and departed from his presence. Then, after that night had passed, the Blessed One put on his robes in the morning, took his bowl and Dharma robes, and went to the house of the householder, the head of the clan, with the ascetic named Grakpa who followed him. At that time, the mother and wife of the venerable Grakpa were waiting at the middle gate to welcome the Blessed One again and again. The mother and wife of the venerable Grakpa saw the Blessed One from afar. Having seen him, they prepared a seat for the Blessed One and said, "Blessed One, please come in. Blessed One, it is good that you have come. Blessed One, please be seated on the prepared seat." After saying this, the Blessed One sat on the prepared seat. Then, the mother and wife of the venerable Grakpa bowed their heads to the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the Blessed One taught the mother and wife of the venerable Grakpa with Dharma-related words, encouraged them to uphold them, praised them, and made them rejoice. Thus, the Dharma talks that the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, gave in the beginning were like this: talks of generosity, talks of ethics, talks of heaven, the insignificance and faults of desires, defilements, purification, liberation, praise of solitude, and extensive explanations of the Dharma on the side of purification. When the two of them were filled with joy and virtue by the Blessed One,

mind, a joyful mind, a mind free from defilements, endowed with good fortune, when the true and excellent Dharma is taught, when seeing the ability to understand. What is the true and excellent Dharma taught by the Buddhas, the Bhagavat? That is, the Four Noble Truths, suffering, origin, cessation, and the path, are extensively explained. For example, just as a clean and spotless cloth placed in a suitable dye can be well dyed, similarly, the venerable Mother of Fame and her two wives, while sitting on the same seat, realized the Four Noble Truths, namely suffering, origin, cessation, and the path. Then, the venerable Mother of Fame and her two wives saw the Dharma, attained the Dharma, knew the Dharma, reached the depths of the Dharma, transcended doubt, transcended hesitation, did not rely on others, were not led by others, and having obtained fearlessness in the Dharmas taught by the Teacher, they rose from their seats and went to where the Bhagavan was, bowed with folded hands, and said to the Bhagavan: Venerable One, we are noble! We are enlightened! We take refuge in the Bhagavan, the Dharma, and the Sangha of monks. Please accept us as lay practitioners. From now until the end of our lives, even at the cost of our lives, we are deeply convinced that we will take refuge. Venerable One, therefore, please accept this meal offering here. The Bhagavan did not say anything to the venerable Mother of Fame and her two wives, thus granting permission. Then, the venerable Mother of Fame and her two wives, knowing that the Bhagavan's silence was permission, offered clean and delicious food and drinks with their own hands to the Bhagavan, who was seated comfortably on the seat, and satisfied him. In various ways, they offered clean and delicious food and drinks with their own hands and satisfied him. Knowing that the Bhagavan had finished his meal, washed his hands, and put away his bowl, they took a very low seat and sat before the Bhagavan to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Bhagavan to the venerable
