Laws were made for everyone. No one should say anything about the Bodhisattva named Fame Holder. Those who deliver messages are also warned: Do not tell anyone about the Bodhisattva except me. Even if you hear it yourself, think of Fame Holder and feel sad. If others hear any news that will keep the concubine Fame Holder from dying, they will entice the concubine's entourage. Then, the Bodhisattva thought: This path cannot be known, cannot be seen, and cannot be attained to unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. He thought: I should eat very bad food. So he ate very bad food. The ordinary food there was: the urine and feces of calves that had just been born and were still drinking breast milk. He did not eat a second food until the luster disappeared from his body, and only ate the later food after the luster had disappeared. After going to the great cemetery, he put the corpse under his head as a pillow. With his feet on top of each other, he kept in mind the concept of appearance, mindfulness and awareness, and the concept of getting up, and slept on his right side. At that time, the young men and young women of the city gathered and inserted wooden sticks into the holes in his two ears. They pulled them out of his ears and said, "Look, the meat eater in the garbage heap! Look, the meat eater in the garbage heap!" They also threw garbage, clods of earth, and tiles at him. However, the Bodhisattva did not generate malice or utter evil words towards the young men or young women of the city. When the Bodhisattva was practicing such austerities, he thought: All those who strive to get rid of suffering are limited to this, there is nothing better than this, and there is nothing further beyond this. This path cannot be known, cannot be seen, and cannot be attained to unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. Thinking this, he was not discouraged, but began to persevere.

It is not uncultivated, but cultivated. It is not ignorance, but mindfulness is established, it is one-pointedness of mind in samadhi. He thought to himself: What is the path by which one can know, one can see, and one can attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment? He thought to himself: When I was living in the house of my father, the Shakya King Suddhodana, I went to the edge of the field and sat in the shade of a jambu tree. Separated from desires, separated from evil and unwholesome dharmas, with initial and sustained thought, I attained and remained in the first dhyana, which is born of separation, with joy and pleasure. I remembered that, that is the path, that is the practice, one can know, one can see, one can attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. If I were to generate that again, it would not be easy in this state of emaciation, weakness, and frailty. Instead, I should breathe in comfortably, breathe out comfortably, eat coarse rice and warm porridge as I please, anoint my body with fresh butter and sesame oil, and bathe my body with warm water. Then he breathed in comfortably, breathed out comfortably, ate coarse rice and warm porridge as he pleased, anointed his body with sesame oil and fresh butter, and bathed his body with warm water. Vinaya-vastu, Volume 85. Then, those five attendants thought to themselves: Wise ones, this ascetic Gautama is relaxed in discipline, has many activities, lives on the support of many, and has declined in renunciation. Because he now eats a lot of rice and warm porridge, anoints his body with ghee and sesame oil, and bathes his body with warm water, he will not be able to attain anything at all now, they thought.

Having cultivated diligence, he gradually went to the city of Sdecan. There, the city lord named Sdecan had two daughters, named Ga'mo and Ga'stobsma. They heard that the youth of the Shakya clan, who appeared near the Kaladatta River at the foot of the Snow Mountain, not far from the hermitage of the sage Serkya, and who was prophesied by the astrologers and diviners to become a Chakravartin king, was handsome, pleasing to the eye, beautiful, endowed with all the marks, and captivating to all beings. They heard that whichever woman would take up and practice such asceticism for twelve years would become his wife. Having heard this, because women are naturally fond of men, the two of them practiced asceticism for twelve years, and after completing it, they offered milk porridge, as sweet as honey, made from sixteen times refined essence, to the sage who had suddenly come, exhausted from asceticism. The two of them milked a thousand cows and poured the milk back into the same thousand cows. Then they milked those thousand cows again and poured the milk into five hundred cows. Then they milked those five hundred cows and poured the milk back into the same five hundred cows. Then they milked those five hundred cows and poured the milk into two hundred and fifty cows. Then they milked those two hundred and fifty cows and poured the milk back into the same two hundred and fifty cows. Then they milked those two hundred and fifty cows and poured the milk into one hundred and twenty-five cows. Then they milked those one hundred and twenty-five cows and poured the milk back into the same one hundred and twenty-five cows. Then they milked those one hundred and twenty-five cows and poured the milk into sixty-three cows. Then they milked those sixty-three cows and poured the milk back into the same sixty-three cows. Then they milked those sixty-three cows and poured the milk into thirty-two cows. Then they milked those thirty-two cows and poured the milk back into the same thirty-two cows. Then they milked those thirty-two cows and poured the milk into sixteen cows. Then they milked those sixteen cows and poured the milk back into the same sixteen cows. Then they milked those sixteen cows
