Having seen, he also said to the charioteer: Charioteer, what is this person with gray hair, hunched back, thin, weak, with failing faculties, whom many people cannot bear to look at? God, this is old age. Charioteer, what is this called being afflicted by disease? God, this person has a place to be destroyed by this, God, this is being afflicted by disease. Charioteer, have I also not escaped the law of disease and the nature of disease? God, you have also not escaped the law of disease and the nature of disease. Charioteer, therefore turn the chariot around and go to the palace. Like this, after I return to the palace, I will contemplate the fact that I have not escaped disease, which is widely known. The charioteer turned the chariot around and then went to the palace. There, Bodhisattva Shakyamuni entered the palace and thought, 'Let me see that I have not escaped disease either,' and was displeased and harbored evil thoughts. Here it is said: Man, with a thin body, gray hair, and hunched back, seeing this uncontrollable affliction of disease, thinking that I have not escaped disease, from then on he was displeased and harbored evil thoughts. After that, King Śuddhodana said to the charioteer: Charioteer, did the prince come to the garden because he was happy and content? Or did he greatly enjoy the garden? God, no. Why is that? God, when the prince came to the garden, he saw a person with gray hair, hunched back, thin, weak, with failing faculties, whom many people could not bear to look at. Having seen him, he asked me: Charioteer, what is this person with gray hair, hunched back, thin, weak, with failing faculties, whom many people cannot bear to look at?

There is a place of decay, and the god escaped. He said: "Charioteer, am I also not beyond the law of disease and the nature of disease?" I said to him: "God, you are also not beyond the law of disease and the nature of disease." He said: "Charioteer, therefore turn the chariot back and go to the palace. Like this, after I return to the palace, I have not gone beyond disease, I must contemplate this matter." That young god returned to the palace, and like me, he was not beyond disease, he was unhappy and displeased in his heart. Then King Śuddhodana thought: "Will the words of the astrologers and fortune-tellers not be completely true? Will the young man shave his hair and beard, wear robes, and renounce his home for homelessness only because of pure faith? Or should I give the young man most of the five desirable qualities, and in any case make him happy and not let him renounce?" Then King Śuddhodana gave most of the five desirable qualities to Bodhisattva Śākyamuni, and in any case made him happy and did not let him renounce. Here it is said: At that time, in order not to make me happy and abandon me, Forms and sounds, smells and tastes, And the main things that are pleasing to the touch, The five desirable qualities were also given to him. According to the Dharma, when the Bodhisattva wanted to go to the garden, he said to the charioteer: "Hey, charioteer, quickly prepare a good chariot for a while. I will sit on it and go to the garden." After saying this, the Bodhisattva said to the charioteer: "Hey, charioteer, quickly prepare a good chariot for a while. I will sit on it and go to the garden." The charioteer listened to the words of Bodhisattva Śākyamuni and said: "According to the will of the god." Then he prepared a good chariot and went to the place where Bodhisattva Śākyamuni was, and after arriving, he said to Bodhisattva Śākyamuni: "God, please ride."

Good deeds have been arranged. Please consider that the time for that deity has arrived. Then, the Bodhisattva Shakyamuni, riding on a fine horse, came to the garden. The Bodhisattva Shakyamuni saw a funeral banner made of various colored cloths, people carrying a coffin, people holding lamps in front, a large crowd of people walking in front, and women with disheveled hair crying and following behind. After seeing this, he said to the charioteer: Charioteer, what is this with the funeral banner made of various colored cloths, people carrying a coffin, people holding lamps in front, a large crowd of people walking in front, and women with disheveled hair crying and following behind? Lord, this is called death. Charioteer, what is this called death? Lord, this person will no longer see his poor parents, sons and daughters, male and female servants, workers, and people who live on leftovers. And those people will no longer see this person. Therefore, Lord, this is called death. Charioteer, have I also not escaped the law of death and the nature of death? Lord, you have also not escaped the law of death and the nature of death. Charioteer, therefore, turn the chariot around and go back to the palace. In this way, after I return to the palace, I will contemplate the well-known truth that I have not escaped death. The charioteer turned the chariot around and returned to the palace. There, the Bodhisattva Shakyamuni returned to the palace, thinking that he had also not escaped death, and was very unhappy and in a bad mood. Here it is said: When life is exhausted and consciousness separates, seeing a lifeless corpse, thinking that I have not escaped death, from then on he was very unhappy and in a bad mood. Then, King Shuddhodana said to the charioteer: Charioteer, did the young prince come to the garden because he was happy and satisfied? Did he become very fond of the garden? Lord, no. Why is that?
