Ah. Charioteer, is it because young man you are happy and content that you came to this garden? Or do you particularly like this garden? God, yes. Why is that? God, when the young man came to this garden, he saw a person who had shaved his hair, wearing a crimson monk's robe, holding a bowl in his hand, walking and begging from one house to another, from one room to another. After seeing this, he said to me: 'Charioteer, this person has shaved his hair, holding a bowl in his hand, walking and begging from one house to another, from one room to another, and this person's clothes are also of a different color, in short, this person is different from others, why is this?' I said to him: 'God, this is a renunciant.' He said: 'Charioteer, what does renunciation mean?' I said to him: 'God, a renunciant is one who is well-tamed, who keeps the precepts well, who practices the meaning well, who practices the Dharma well, who practices good deeds well, who understands the practice of goodness, therefore shaves his hair and beard, puts on a crimson monk's robe, and renounces his home with pure faith alone. God, this is a renunciant.' He said: 'Charioteer, therefore, drive the chariot to where that renunciant is.' God, I listened to the teachings of Bodhisattva Shakyamuni and drove the chariot to where that renunciant was. Bodhisattva Shakyamuni said to that renunciant: 'Hey, why did you shave your hair, hold a bowl in your hand, walk and beg from one house to another, from one room to another, and your clothes are also of a different color, in short, you are different from others, why is this?' He said: 'Young man, I am a renunciant.' The Bodhisattva said: 'Hey, why did you renounce?' He said: 'Young man, because I am well-tamed, keep the precepts well, practice the meaning well, practice the Dharma well, practice good deeds well, and practice goodness well,'

Having recognized good conduct, shaved his hair and beard, and donned the ochre robe, he went forth from home to homelessness solely by correct faith. Thus, I am called an ascetic. The Bodhisattva said: 'Hey, man, you have recognized that taming is good, correctly keeping vows is good, practicing meaning is good, practicing Dharma is good, practicing virtue is good, practicing auspiciousness is good, shaved your hair and beard, donned the ochre robe, and going forth from home to homelessness solely by correct faith is good.' Then the youth said from the god: 'For that driver, turn the chariot back, I will go to the palace itself.' Thus, after I go to the palace, I will contemplate this matter. I then turned the chariot, and the youth entered the palace. The king thought: 'Won't the words of those Brahmins, the sign readers and fortune tellers, become completely true? The youth will shave his hair and beard, don the ochre robe, and go forth from home to homelessness solely by correct faith, will it come to pass? Mother, I will send the youth to the village of farmers, and somehow I will make him distracted.' Then, he said this to the youth Shakyamuni: 'Youth, come here! You go to the village of farmers and look at the end of the work.' Then, the Bodhisattva, having seen old age, sickness, and death, became disgusted. With a mind manifestly attached to going forth, having heard the words of his father Shakya Suddhodana, he entered the chariot and went to the village of farmers in body, but not in mind. On the way, five hundred treasures showed their faces closely and made a sound: 'Youth, we are the treasures of your relatives, please accept us!' The Bodhisattva said: 'For a while, what will those fools do after being completely seized? You are of no use to me, go away!' He also said in verses: 'Whoever spoke the words of death to me, those have also become words of death. Not long after I die, I will also become the words of others.' They also made a sound: 'Youth, if you do not accept us, we will enter the great ocean.' Bodhisattva
