It is like this, it became like the leg of a female yak. If he wanted to stand up a few times, he would fall face down. If he wanted to sit down a few times, he would fall on his back. He relied on the empty body to support the lower body, and relied on the lower body to support the upper body. He smeared his body with both hands, completely smearing it. When he smeared his body with both hands, completely smearing it, the hairs fell to the ground because the roots were rotten. He thought to himself: This path cannot be understood, cannot be seen, and cannot attain the unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. Then, three gods came to where the Bodhisattva was, and one of them said: The ascetic Gautama is black. The second one said: He is not black, but blue. The third one said: He is neither black nor blue, but reddish-brown. The beautiful color of the Bodhisattva's body completely disappeared. Then, three similes that the Bodhisattva had not heard before appeared in his mind, like taking a wet and watery piece of wood out of the water and placing it nearby to dry. Then, a person who strives for fire, a person who seeks fire, comes there, and he uses that wood as a rubbing base, puts the rubbing stick on it and rubs it. In this way, because that wood is wet and watery, it cannot generate fire, it cannot burn. Similarly, some ascetics or Brahmins, regarding desires, do not distance themselves with body and mind, regarding those desires, there is craving, there is attachment, there is delight, there is infatuation, there is immersion, there is special infatuation, those things completely occupy their minds, therefore, those who do not distance themselves with body and mind are like that. Although they experience unbearable suffering that harms themselves, feelings that are rough, hot, and unpleasant, they cannot understand, cannot see, and cannot attain unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment, because for them, this...

At that time, the first example that the Bodhisattva had not heard before appeared. For example, a wet, watery piece of wood is taken out of the water and placed nearby to dry. Then, a person seeking fire, a fire seeker, comes and uses it as a base for drilling fire, puts the drill wood on it, and drills. Like this, because that wood is wet and watery, fire will not arise, and it cannot be burned. Similarly, some ascetics or Brahmins who dwell abandoning desires with their bodies but not with their minds, for those desires, the desire for desire, the attachment to desire, the delight in desire, the clinging to desire, the infatuation with desire, and the special attachment to desire, whatever these are, their minds are completely attached and dwell there. Although they experience unbearable suffering of self-harm, feelings that are rough, hot, and unpleasant, nevertheless, they are not able to know, not able to see, not able to attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Therefore, this is the second example that the Bodhisattva had not heard before at that time. For example, a dry, hollow, waterless piece of wood is placed far from water in a dry place. Then, a person seeking fire, a fire seeker, comes and uses it as a base for drilling fire, puts the drill wood on it, and drills. Like this, because that wood is dry and hollow, fire can arise, and it can be burned. Similarly, some ascetics or Brahmins who dwell distancing themselves from desires with body and mind, for those desires, the desire for desire, the attachment to desire, the delight in desire, the clinging to desire, the infatuation with desire, and the special attachment to desire, whatever these are, their minds do not dwell completely attached. Although they experience unbearable suffering of self-harm, feelings that are rough, hot, and unpleasant, nevertheless, they are able to know, able to see, able to attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Therefore, this is the third example that the Bodhisattva had not heard before at that time. Like this, the Bodhisattva's example at that time

Thirdly, from Srangnam Ma, he thought, "I shall eat a meal of one sesame seed." So he ate a meal of one sesame seed. Until its radiance had disappeared from his body, he did not eat a second sesame seed. After it had disappeared, he ate the second sesame seed. By eating a meal of one sesame seed, his limbs and joints became extremely emaciated. Just like one sesame seed, he also ate one grain of rice, one bean of cowpea, one bean of soybean, one bean of small lentil, one bean of small pea, and he slept on a grass mat. When King Śuddhodana heard of the circumstances of his ascetic practice, he sent two hundred and fifty spies every day. King Suprabuddha also sent two hundred and fifty. They quickly conveyed news to each other every day. They said, "The Bodhisattva is practicing such austerities, eating a meal of one sesame seed, one grain of rice, one bean of cowpea, one bean of soybean, one bean of small lentil, one bean of small pea, and sleeping on a grass mat." When King Śuddhodana heard this, he was overwhelmed by grief for his son, became even more distressed, his eyes filled with tears, and he grieved so much that he slept on a grass mat together with his consorts. Queen Mahaprajapati Gautami also heard of the family's situation, and overwhelmed by the grief of her household, her face wet with tears, she abandoned her garlands, ornaments, and adornments, and began to practice austerities, eating a meal of one sesame seed, one grain of rice, one bean of cowpea, one bean of soybean, one bean of small lentil, one bean of small pea, and sleeping on a grass mat. When King Śuddhodana heard that she was unwell, he thought, "If Mahaprajapati Gautami hears news of the Bodhisattva every day, overwhelmed by the grief of her household and practicing such austerities, there is a possibility that she will not conceive or that she will lose her life. Therefore, no one should mention the Bodhisattva to Mahaprajapati Gautami." So, King Śuddhodana forbade the attendants of the queen
