Having settled within himself, he soon realized that Dharma. Having realized that Dharma, he went to where Raṃs byed's son Lhag spyod was, and having arrived, he said this to Raṃs byed's son Lhag spyod: Lhag spyod, have you personally realized these dharmas up to the realm of neither perception nor non-perception? Venerable Gautama, yes, I have realized these dharmas up to the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. The Bodhisattva said: Venerable Lhag spyod, I too have personally realized these dharmas up to the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. Venerable Gautama, if that is so, then what you have realized is the same as what I have realized, and what I have realized is the same as what you have realized, so in this matter we are the same and equal, having obtained the same, please come here, let us two guide this sangha together. Then, Raṃs byed's son Lhag spyod, as the Bodhisattva's first teacher, remembered the Bodhisattva with excellent remembrance and honored him with excellent offerings.

He took five attendants, thinking that the rest would be pleased, so he took two from his mother's side and three from his father's side, and these attended to him. Then, the Bodhisattva, surrounded by five attendants, went to the south of Gaya, near the village where the community of Udraka Rāmaputra was located. As they walked back and forth, they saw a place that was pleasant, with a dense and beautiful forest, the Nairañjanā River flowing coolly, golden sands with easy access and a wide expanse, green grass, and adorned with various trees, which looked very delightful. Seeing it, he thought: 'Ah! This place is delightful, with a dense and beautiful forest, the Nairañjanā River flowing coolly. Golden sands with easy access and a wide expanse, green grass, and adorned with various trees, which looks very delightful. Ah! A noble son who seeks solitude can practice solitude by relying on this forest. Since I am one who seeks solitude, I should also rely on this forest and practice solitude.' Then, the Bodhisattva entered the forest and sat under a tree, pressing his teeth against his teeth, his tongue against his palate, holding his mind with his mind, restraining it, and greatly restraining it. He held his mind with his mind, restrained it, and greatly restrained it, so that dust came out of all the pores of his skin. For example, if a strong man grabs a very weak man and rolls him up like wool, restraining him, and greatly restraining him, then dust will come out of all the pores of that man. Similarly, at that time, the Bodhisattva pressed his teeth against his teeth, his tongue against his palate, and held his mind with his mind, restraining it, and greatly restraining it, so that dust came out of all the pores of his skin, but he was not discouraged, but exerted effort. His body was not untrained, but trained. He was not drowsy, but mindful, and his mind was one-pointedly concentrated. The Bodhisattva endured unbearable suffering, rough, hot, and unpleasant.

Even though experiencing such feelings, because of practicing the body in this way, the mind is completely absorbed and does not dwell. Then the Bodhisattva thought to himself: I should enter into the samadhi of non-perception. He began to enter into the samadhi of non-perception. When he entered into the samadhi of non-perception, the inhalation and exhalation from the mouth and nose ceased, and all the winds went into the crown of the head. Therefore, a very unbearable feeling of the head arose in his head. For example, if a strong person hammered a sharp iron nail into the crown of a very weak person, that person would have a very unbearable feeling of the head in his head. Similarly, when the Bodhisattva entered into the samadhi of non-perception, a very unbearable feeling of the head arose in his head, but he was not discouraged, but exerted effort. It was not without training the body, but training the body. It was not dullness, but abiding in mindfulness, because the mind was focused on one point. Even though the Bodhisattva experienced unbearable suffering, coarse, and unpleasant feelings, because of practicing the body in this way, the mind was completely absorbed and did not dwell. He thought to himself: I should enter even more into the samadhi of non-perception. He began to enter even more into the samadhi of non-perception. When he entered into the samadhi of non-perception, the inhalation and exhalation from the mouth and nose ceased. Because the inhalation and exhalation from his mouth and nose ceased, all the winds went into the two ear canals. For example, when a blacksmith blows a bellows, all the streams of air flow out from the two bellows' canals. Similarly, when the Bodhisattva entered into the samadhi of non-perception, all the streams of air went into the two ear canals, but he was not discouraged, but exerted effort. It was not without training the body, but training the body. It was not dullness, but abiding in mindfulness, because the mind was focused on one point.
