said: It was Devadatta. He thought: Surely Devadatta has cast a spell on this (elephant), I (also) must cast a spell on this (elephant), thinking thus, he grabbed (the elephant's) tail, and in order to prevent it from emitting a foul odor, he completely threw it away. After some time, the Bodhisattva Shakyamuni came out, saw it, and asked: Where did this elephant come from? They told the story of what had happened. Who killed it? Devadatta killed it. If it was said to be slaughtered to entertain guests, then a bad thing was done. In which direction was it killed? By the river. Who brought this (elephant) here? It was brought by Delight. He thought: Surely those two have cast a spell on this (elephant), I also must cast a spell on this (elephant), thinking thus, he grabbed (the elephant's) tail and threw it over the fence, (as a result, the elephant) passed through seven layers of fences and seven layers of moats, and was thrown away. The place where it fell formed a pit, which was called "Elephant Pit, Elephant Pit." There, Brahmins and faithful householders built stupas, so even now monks prostrate themselves to the stupas. Here it is said: Devadatta killed the elephant king, Delight carried it seven steps away, the Bodhisattva with his hand in the air, like throwing a stone, threw it far away. The young men said: Let's go to cut down (trees), when those people came out, the Bodhisattva Shakyamuni also heard it, and came out with five hundred attendants to cut down (trees). The young men cut down (trees) like harvesting crops, they cut down the trees, and the cut trees all fell. The Bodhisattva cut down (trees) like cutting off the top of bamboo. He cut down the trees, but the cut trees did not fall, they stood there as they were. The young men said: Wise ones, we have heard that the Bodhisattva Shakyamuni has power and is proficient in the five sciences, but this person does not even know how to cut down (trees), it seems that this person is not as strong as us, because all the trees that we cut down have fallen, but the ones he cut down are standing there as they are. Then, the god who had great faith in the Bodhisattva Shakyamuni said these words

Thinking, 'These Shakyas, not knowing the power and skill of the Bodhisattva, will despise the Bodhisattva and slander his power. I should devise a plan.' Thinking this, he sent a corresponding wind that caused all the trees to fall with a loud crash. The Shakyas, seeing this, were greatly amazed. They began to compete, setting up seven iron tala trees, drums, and pigs as targets. Devadatta used a foot technique to shoot an iron arrow, piercing one iron tala tree. Nanda pierced two. When the Bodhisattva shot an iron arrow, it passed through seven tala trees, drums, and pigs, and the iron arrow pierced the ground. When the dragon pulled out the arrow, a plentiful stream of water emerged, and a large crowd began to drink from it. Brahmins and devout householders built a stupa there. Even today, monks prostrate and pay homage to the stupa. The youths entered Kapilavastu in chariots, and the fortune-tellers came out of the city. They prophesied about the young Shakya prince entering the city in a chariot. 'If this prince does not renounce the world within twelve years, he will become a Chakravartin king, not devoured by demons.' King Suddhodana heard the prophecy of the young fortune-tellers. Hearing this, he was pleased and satisfied, and gathered the Shakyas, saying, 'Wise ones, I have heard the fortune-tellers prophesy that if this prince does not renounce the world within twelve years, he will become a Chakravartin king.' 'If this prince does not renounce the world within twelve years and becomes a Chakravartin king, we will wander on the surface of the sky, wandering through the four continents like outsiders. Let us build a palace for him.' The ministers said, 'O god, the prince does not seek desires.' King Suddhodana said, 'Show all the women to the prince, and whichever one he likes, let us take her as his wife.' Then some said, 'O god, the prince likes to give alms, let him bestow the ornaments on the women.'
