Do not quarrel! Do not expose each other's shortcomings! Do not fight! Do not contend! Monks, these four are disputes. What are the four? Disputes of contention, disputes without instruction, disputes of downfall, and disputes of affairs. What is the dispute of contention? Those in the Sangha who speak various things, speak contradictory things, speak things that do not match, are not happy with all disharmony, and have not become one, relying on those to quarrel, expose each other's shortcomings, fight, and contend, this is called the dispute of contention. What is called the dispute without instruction? Not accepting the Sangha's instruction, not giving instruction, placing instruction, relying on those to quarrel, expose each other's shortcomings, fight, and contend, this is called the dispute without instruction. What is called the dispute of downfall? The five downfalls are called the five aggregates of downfall, what are the five? Parajika, Sanghavasesa, Pacittiya, Patidesaniya, and Dukkata, relying on those to quarrel, expose each other's shortcomings, fight, and contend, this is called the dispute of downfall. What is called the dispute of affairs? The Sangha's affairs, request, request and two matters, request and four matters, relying on those to quarrel, expose each other's shortcomings, fight, and contend, this is called the dispute of affairs. Monks, what is the root of the dispute of contention? What is the root of the dispute of contention? The six roots of contention and the fourteen foundations for causing contention. What are the six roots of contention? For example, here some people are angry and hold grudges. Because they are angry and hold grudges, they do not respect the teacher, do not respect the lama, do not respect the Dharma, and do not make offerings. Because they do not respect the teacher, do not respect the lama, do not respect the Dharma, and do not make offerings, they do not see the Dharma. Because they do not see the Dharma, they do not observe the conduct of the Shramanas. If they do not observe the conduct of the Shramanas, they will cause such quarrels, exposing each other's shortcomings, fighting, and contention in the Sangha. Quarrels, exposing each other's shortcomings, fighting,

Whatever is a dispute is not beneficial to many people, is harmful to many people, causes suffering to many people, is not beneficial to gods and humans, is harmful, and causes suffering. Monks, if you truly see that such a root of dispute, whether internal or external, has not been abandoned, then you should be harmonious and joyful together, and because there is no dispute, have strong desire, diligence, effort, enthusiasm, firmness, unwavering mindfulness, and awareness, and strive to abandon the very root of the dispute as much as possible. In this way, you will also abandon the root of the dispute. Monks, if you truly see that such a root of dispute, whether internal or external, has been well abandoned, then you should be harmonious and joyful together, and because there is no dispute, have strong desire, diligence, effort, enthusiasm, firmness, unwavering mindfulness, and awareness, and strive to ensure that the root of dispute that has been abandoned does not arise again in the future. In this way, those roots of dispute will be truly and well eliminated by you, and will not arise again in the future. Vinaya-vastu, Volume 78. Just as anger and resentment are concealed and annoyance, jealousy and stinginess, deceit and trickery, shamelessness and lack of embarrassment are also similar. Furthermore, here, some people hold their own views as supreme and hold perverse views, and argue about what is said. Those who hold their own views as supreme, hold perverse views, and argue about what is said do not respect the teacher, do not respect the lama, do not respect the rituals, and do not make offerings. Because they do not respect the teacher, do not respect the lama, do not respect the rituals, and do not make offerings, they do not see the Dharma. Because they do not see the Dharma, they do not observe the conduct of the renunciates. If they do not observe the conduct of the renunciates, then such strife, fault-finding, quarrels, and disputes will arise in the Sangha. Strife, fault-finding, quarrels, and dispu
