Revealing faults, fighting, and quarreling are not the gains we have obtained, because we have obtained faults and not obtained benefits. Therefore, regarding this basis, whatever downfalls have occurred to me and the venerable ones, apart from serious transgressions or dependence on the household, I, for the sake of myself and the venerable ones, will not conceal from you, but am willing to confess and repent. One should say it like this. When one side treats the other, or the other side treats one, like seeing faults as downfalls, maintaining them, and similarly showing closeness, but not proclaiming downfalls to each other and talking about them, then the dispute is like this: it is suitable to be covered with grass, therefore it is peaceful. Monks, like this, being suitable to be covered with grass is a way to pacify disputes, like this, here some disputes are like this: disputes suitable to be covered with grass, by pacifying the dispute, are tamed, peaceful, and approaching peace. Monks, disputes of downfalls should be tamed, pacified, and brought near to peace by these four dharmas that pacify disputes, namely: suitable for admission, suitable for taming in person, suitable for investigating its essence, and suitable for covering with grass. Monks, disputes of actions should be pacified through the harmony of the Sangha. Monks, in any place where a monk resides, there is no fighting, no revealing of faults, no quarreling, no arguing. If there are two, there is also no fighting, no revealing of faults, no quarreling, no arguing. If there are three, there is also no fighting, no revealing of faults, no quarreling, no arguing. If there are four or more monks residing, there is fighting, revealing of faults, quarreling, and arguing. Monks, like Brahma, one is like that. Like Indra, two are like that. Like a king, three are like that. More than that will lead to conflict. Monks, therefore, it should be permitted, and the benefits of the Dharma should be given to the one who can remember one verse of the four-line verse, and he should also enjoy it, and there should be no regret for this. The dispute of
