It is appropriate to subdue, and those who are not mad should be subdued. Monks, regarding disputes over transgressions, pacify the disputes with four dharmas, causing them to be subdued, calmed, and nearly calmed. What are the four? They are: it is appropriate to confess, it is appropriate to subdue manifestly, it is appropriate to cause the seeking of its own nature, and it is appropriate like the spreading of grass. Monks, how is it that confession is appropriate for pacifying disputes? How is it that some disputes here are such that by pacifying the disputes that should be confessed, they are subdued, calmed, and nearly calmed? For example, a monk has committed a transgression, whether the basis is mentioned or not, whether remembered or not. Sitting before a monk, he says: "Venerable one, please listen. I, named so-and-so, have committed such a transgression, and I confess and reveal it before the venerable one. If we confess and reveal, we will touch happiness, but if we do not confess and reveal, it will not be so." One should say, "Do you see the transgression?" He should also say, "I see the transgression." One should say, "Does the former prevent the latter?" One should say, "The latter practices," this is confession. There are ten kinds of unlawful confession donations, and ten kinds of lawful ones. What are the ten kinds of unlawful confession donations? For example, a monk has committed a pārājika offense, but knows that he has not committed it, and the sangha makes him confess, this is an unlawful confession donation. Saṃghāvaśeṣa, transgression, individual confession, and the transgression of wrong action have occurred, but knowing that I have not committed them, the sangha makes him confess, this is an unlawful confession donation. For example, a monk has not committed a pārājika offense, but knows that I have committed it, and the sangha makes him confess, this is an unlawful confession donation. Saṃghāvaśeṣa, transgression, individual confession, and the transgression of wrong action have not occurred, but knowing that I have committed them, the sangha

To make a commitment To enter is the non-dharmic commitment of giving. These are the ten non-dharmic commitment givings. What are the ten dharmic commitment givings? For example, a bhikshu has committed a defeat offense, and knowing that he has committed it, the sangha allows him to make a commitment, this is the dharmic commitment giving. Sanghavasesa, patayantika, pratidesaniya, and duskrita offenses have occurred, and knowing that he has committed them, the sangha allows him to make a commitment, this is the dharmic commitment giving. For example, a bhikshu has not committed a defeat offense, and knowing that he has not committed it, the sangha allows him to make a commitment, this is the dharmic commitment giving. Sanghavasesa, patayantika, pratidesaniya, and duskrita offenses have not occurred, and knowing that they have not occurred, the sangha allows him to make a commitment, this is the dharmic commitment giving. These are the ten dharmic commitment givings. Bhikshus, thus commitment is appropriate, it pacifies disputes. Thus, here some disputes are like this: by pacifying the disputes that should be committed to, they are tamed, pacified, and nearly pacified. The Buddha Bhagavan was dwelling in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. At that time, the venerable Mrgadhrin's son Black was dwelling in a multi-storied house near the Monkey Pond in Vaishali. Because of this, the Licchavis of Vaishali were particularly devoted to the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and the bhikshus of Vaishali thought: 'The venerable Mrgadhrin's son Black was born in another place and grew up in another place, born in Shravasti, and the Licchavis of Vaishali are particularly faithful to him, we should expel him from here, so that the Licchavis of Vaishali will lose faith in him.' Thinking this, they began to find fault with him. At that time, a householder invited the Buddha and the sangha of bhikshus to bathe in the bathhouse, and the bhikshu

The monks hung their robes on the clothesline and began to bathe. The venerable Black Deer's son also knowingly placed his robes on one side and began to bathe. Another monk also placed his robes in the same direction. Then, the venerable Black Deer's son, having bathed, thought, "This must be my robe," and put on that monk's robe and left. After a while, when that monk got up, he could not find his robe and asked the monks: "Venerable ones, who stole my robe?" After a while, the one who was staying with the venerable Black Deer's son in that direction heard this and said: "Venerable one, if the abbot placed his robe in this direction, could it be that he took it by mistake? Wait a moment, I will go and ask the abbot." Then he went to the abbot and said: "Abbot, whose robe did you take?" He said: "Child, it is mine." "Abbot, a certain monk's robe was placed in that direction." "Child, if that is so, bring those robes here and let me see them." He brought them and said: "Abbot, please recognize these robes." He recognized them and said: "Child, I took them by mistake. These are that monk's, return them." He took the robes and went to that monk and said: "Venerable one, the abbot took these robes by mistake." That monk said: "He took them with a stealing mind, so he has committed a Pārājika offense." Then, the monks who were looking for an opportunity did not rebuke him, nor did they remind him, but expelled him from the Saṅgha by means of expulsion. The venerable Black Deer's son thought: "It is difficult for Brahmins and householders to generate faith, but it is easy to lose faith. If I continue to stay here, I will undoubtedly cause the Licchavis of Vaishali to lose faith. In short, I will go to Shravasti." So, without paying attention to the Licchavis of Vaishali, he took his alms bowl and robes and went to where Shravasti was. Gradually, he traveled all the way to Shravasti. When the monks saw him, they said
