Without cover, on the plain, in the water, those who are far away, and those who are near can be seen. Vinaya-Vastu, Volume Seventy-Six. Monks arose with doubts, and in order to dispel all doubts, they asked the Blessed One, the Buddha. Venerable, what deeds did the householder Anathapindika do? The maturation of that deed caused his eyes to be as bright as precious jewels and endowed him with a pleasant voice. The Blessed One said: Monks, this householder Anathapindika has obtained a collection of deeds, transformed the conditions, and abiding like a light, he has done and accumulated deeds that will not be devoured by demons. How could others experience the deeds done and accumulated by the householder Anathapindika himself? Monks, the deeds done and accumulated will not mature in the external earth element, nor will they mature in the water element, nor will they mature in the fire element, nor will they mature in the wind element. Thus, the good and bad deeds done and accumulated will only mature in the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that are grasped. Deeds, even after hundreds of kalpas, Will not be wasted, and when the conditions are gathered, For sentient beings, They will become fruits. Monks, in the past, near Mount Riwo, there lived a wealthy householder, rich in possessions, enjoying great abundance, possessing vast and extensive holdings, endowed with the wealth of Vaishravana, and rivaling Vaishravana in wealth. When the summer season arrived, the flowering trees blossomed, and in the forest where swans, cranes, peacocks, parrots, partridges, cuckoos, and mynas made sounds, he went with his family. When Buddhas do not appear, solitary Buddhas, who have compassion for the lowly and the wicked, who delight in remote dwellings, and who are the sole objects of offering in the world, will appear in the world. When a solitary Buddha traveled there, he arrived at Mount Riwo and sat down in a certain part of that garden. The person guarding the garden said to the householder: Master, in this direction there is a renunciate who is peaceful.

A person of such nature resided there. Having heard this, he became delighted and developed faith, thinking, "I am fortunate that such a renunciate resides in my pleasure garden." That great being also entered the realm of nirvana without the residue of aggregates and completely passed into nirvana. Then, that householder, together with friends, relatives, kin, and family members, cremated him with great reverence. After extinguishing the fire with milk, he mixed the bones with jewels and placed them in a crystal vase, and those bones became radiant and emitted sound. Then, he approached and made a prayer: "Just as these bones, mixed with jewels, have become exceedingly radiant and emit sound, may the fruit of my eyes, through this root of virtue, become as radiant as jewels and possess the voice of wealth." Monks, what do you think? The householder at that time was none other than the householder Anathapindika. Whatever he did for the Pratyekabuddha and the prayer he made, and when the householder became the nephew of the king, whatever he hung a burning jewel on the stupa of the hair and nails of the perfectly enlightened Buddha, due to the ripening of that karma, the fruit of his eyes became as radiant as jewels and possessed the voice of wealth. Monks, therefore, the ripening of purely black deeds is purely black, and that of purely white deeds is purely white, and that of mixed deeds is mixed. Therefore, monks, you should train yourselves thus: Abandon whatever deeds are black and mixed, and strive for purely white deeds. Monks, you should train yourselves in such a way. Intermediate verses: King and increase, lips and, ruling giving and Jupiter, water above and giving food, the future one is Wealth Good. Wealth and gold and, the third is jewel pearl. Cows and barley and clothes and, a hundred million are encompassed by wealth. When the householder Anathapindika

After plowing with countless plows, having bought it from Prince Jeta, when it was offered to the Sangha of monks including the Buddha, faithful devotees residing in various places came to Shravasti to pay homage to the stupa. Some of them became very devoted and said: Venerable ones, we too will build a small foundation in Prince Jeta's garden for the sake of the venerable Sangha. The monks said: Buy land with money and build. Venerable ones, how much money? How much to give? This much money. Venerable ones, for the time being, we still have this much wealth. Even so, if we get this place, we will build. At that time, the monks reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One instructed: Inquire of the householder, if he gives, then build. The monks inquired of the householder Anathapindika, and he said: If Brahmins, householders, and powerful people, relying on me, do meritorious deeds for the Sangha, then I will give. If it is for an individual, I will not give. At that time, the monks reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One instructed: Therefore, allow it. Build for the Sangha. For an individual, inquire of the patron, if he gives, then build. If he does not give, do not build. Monks who came incidentally, having come to Shravasti to pay homage to the stupa, those who had greetings went to the monks as usual. Others who had no greetings, those impoverished ones came. To this, the Blessed One instructed: For those who come incidentally, a non-allocated residence should be set up. There was a monastery on Mount Rorika, where the monks vowed to stay for the summer retreat, but soon after, fear arose inside Mount Rorika during the summer. The monks residing there were afraid and came to Shravasti without performing the Pravāraṇā. Then, the monks let those tired from the journey rest. After those tired from the journey rested, they said: O long-lived ones, assign us lodgings. They said it was during the summer.
