Like being surrounded by a retinue of ministers, like a Chakravartin king surrounded by a thousand sons, like the moon surrounded by a multitude of stars, like the sun surrounded by a thousand rays of light, like being surrounded by a retinue of Dhritarashtra Gandharvas, like being surrounded by a retinue of Bhadrakumbha youths, like being surrounded by a retinue of Virupaksha Nagas, like being surrounded by a retinue of Vaishravana's Yaksha sons, like being surrounded by a retinue of Takshaka copper-colored Rakshasis, like being surrounded by a retinue of Indra's Thirty-three Gods, like being surrounded by a retinue of Brahma's Brahma hosts, like the ocean unmoving, like clouds filled with water, like a noble elephant free from arrogance, the senses are extremely subdued, and the conduct is not disturbed. The body is adorned with the thirty-two marks of a great man, and the eighty minor marks are perfectly embellished. A body adorned with a fathom of light, possessing light surpassing a thousand rays of sunlight, beautiful in every way like a moving mountain of jewels, possessing the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, the three unmixed mindfulnesses, and great compassion. The great Sangha of monks, and Anathapindika the householder with his retinue, and the assembly of beings dwelling in Shravasti, attended by hundreds of thousands of gods, proceeded to the city of Shravasti. When the Bhagavan went to Shravasti and manifested miracles, at the moment when his right foot pressed upon the threshold of the city gate, the earth shook in six ways. This great earth shook, shook in every direction, shook greatly in every direction, quaked greatly, quaked greatly in every direction, the east rose and the west lowered, the west rose and the east lowered, the south rose and the north lowered, the north rose and the south lowered, the edges rose and the center lowered, the center rose and the edges lowered. This entire world, including the space between worlds, was filled with great light. In the sky, the gods beat heavenly drums, and the gods dwelling in the center of the sky scattered divine flowers from above.

The Blessed One, understanding the thought of the youth Jeta, said: 'Monks, this is the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, the Anathapindika's Garden.' There, he mentioned his name first. The youth Jeta, hearing that the Blessed One had mentioned his name there first, became very happy, and having generated joy and great joy, he had a gatehouse of four kinds of jewels built for the Blessed One with all kinds of wealth. Similarly, those who compile also stated in the sutras: 'The Buddha, the Blessed One, dwells in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, the Anathapindika's Garden.' The monks, having doubts, asked the Buddha, the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts: 'Venerable one, did the householder Anathapindika previously offer this place to the Fully Enlightened Buddhas?' The Blessed One replied: 'Monks, in the past, ninety-one kalpas ago, there was a Fully Enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, a Sugata, a knower of the world, an unsurpassed tamer of men, a teacher of gods and humans, a Buddha, the Blessed One, named Vipashyi (藏文:རྣམ་པར་གཟིགས།,梵文天城体:विपश्यी,梵文罗马拟音:Vipaśyī,汉语字面意思:种种观), who appeared in the world, and he and his retinue of sixty-two thousand monks also came to this place. At that time, in Shravasti here, there was a householder named Jaya, who bought this land, six yojanas in extent, by covering it with gold, from Prince Jeta, and offered it to the Fully Enlightened Buddha Vipashyi, and he renounced in his presence, abandoned all defilements, and realized the Arhat. A nephew of the householder Jaya served him, and having generated great faith in the Tathagata Vipashyi, he had a stupa of the hair and nails of the Fully Enlightened Buddha Vipashyi built, and he thought: 'How should I day and night'

Thinking, what method is there to see without obstruction? At that time, a person living by the sea offered him a burning jewel. He hung it on the stupa, and through this, he could see the stupa of hair and nails day and night without obstruction. Then, he developed faith and made a vow: Just as my uncle paved this land with gold and bricks, bought it from the young prince, and offered it to the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipaśyin and the community of Śrāvakas, so too shall I pave this land with gold and bricks, buy it from the young prince, and offer it to the seven perfectly enlightened Buddhas. May I be ordained in the presence of the last of them, abandon all defilements, and realize the state of Arhat. Monks, what do you think? That royal son at that time was none other than the householder Anāthapiṇḍada. From that time onwards, in the thirty-first kalpa, the teacher named Crested One appeared in the world, until the Blessed One Buddha appeared in the world. As before, he and a sangha of sixty thousand monks came to this place. At that time, a householder named Extensive Increase appeared, and he paved this land with three and a half krośas of jewels, bought it from the young prince, and offered it to the perfectly enlightened Crested One Buddha and the Śrāvaka retinue. Monks, do you think that the Extensive Increase householder at that time was someone else? You should not see it that way, because that one at that time was none other than the householder Anāthapiṇḍada. After that, in the same thirty-first kalpa, from the teacher named All-Protector, until the Blessed One Buddha appeared in the world, it was as before. He and a sangha of sixty thousand monks came to this place. At that time, a householder named Lip appeared, and he paved this land with two yojanas of pearls, bought it from the young prince, and offered it to the perfectly enlightened All-Protector.
