It was offered to the community of Shravakas. Monks, if you think that the householder named 'Lip' at that time was someone else, you should not think that way. However, at that time, the householder Anathapindika was the very one. After that, in this very fortunate kalpa, from the teacher named 'Destruction of Revolutions' to 'The Buddha Bhagavan appeared in the world,' it is as before. He and his retinue of forty thousand monks came to this place. At that time, a householder named 'Political Giving' appeared. He filled this place with cows, bought it from a young man, and offered it to the perfectly complete Buddha Destruction of Revolutions and the community of Shravakas. Monks, if you think that the householder at that time, who became known as 'Political Giving,' was someone else, you should not think that way. However, at that time, the householder Anathapindika was the very one. After that, in this very fortunate kalpa, when the lifespan of beings could reach thirty thousand years, from the teacher named 'Golden Light' to 'The Buddha Bhagavan appeared in the world,' it is as before. He and his retinue of thirty thousand monks came to this place. At that time, a householder named 'Purbu' appeared. He covered this place with clothes, bought it from a young man, and offered it to the perfectly complete Buddha Golden Light and the community of Shravakas. He covered this land, half a yojana long, with gold, bought it from a young man, and offered it to the perfectly complete Buddha Light Protector and the community of Shravakas.

Monks, if you think that the householder named Chutö at that time was someone else, you should not think that way. However, at that time, the householder Anāthapiṇḍada was the one. Monks, the present Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Well-Gone, Knower of the World, Subduer of Persons, Tamer, Unsurpassed, Teacher of gods and humans, when I appeared in the world and came to this place with my retinue of one thousand two hundred and fifty, even now the householder Anāthapiṇḍada has plowed with sixteen plows, covering an area of a billion, and having bought it from the youth Gyaljé, offered it to me and the monastic community of śrāvakas. Monks, in the future, when the lifespan of beings will be eighty thousand years, a teacher named Maitreya, with a retinue of nine hundred million Arhats and sixty billion great billions, will also come to this place. At that time, a householder named Norzang will appear, and he will pave this place with three yojanas of gold and earth, buy it from the youth, and offer it to the Maitreya śrāvaka monastic community, and having renounced in that teaching, having abandoned all defilements, he will realize Arhatship. Monks, if you think that the householder named Norzang who will appear at that time is someone else, you should not think that way. However, this householder Anāthapiṇḍada will become the householder named Norzang. Householder Anāthapiṇḍada saw treasures with owners, treasures without owners, treasures on land, treasures in water, and treasures that were far away, and treasures that were near, so everyone said that householder Anāthapiṇḍada saw treasures with owners, treasures without owners, treasures on land, treasures in water, and treasures that were far away, and treasures that were near. At that time, heretical śramaṇas, brahmins, practitioners, and various wanderers gathered in the hall of speculation and argued.

Others were discussing such matters, saying: 'What qualities does the wise householder Anathapindika possess that he can see treasures with owners, treasures without owners, treasures on land, treasures in water, those that are far away, and those that are near?' At that time, a Brahmin boy named Cowherd gathered and sat in that assembly, and he said: 'Wise ones, be a little quiet, and I will examine what qualities the householder Anathapindika possesses that he can see treasures with owners, treasures without owners, treasures on land, treasures in water, those that are far away, and those that are near, and then I will tell you.' So he diligently observed the householder Anathapindika's walking and sitting, and followed him. At some other time, when the householder Anathapindika had bathed in the river Ajiravati and come out, the boy clapped his hands behind him, and the householder Anathapindika saw him but sat without saying a word. The boy said: 'Householder, you are wise and possess patience and tolerance, therefore you can see treasures with owners, treasures without owners, treasures on land, treasures in water, those that are far away, and those that are near.' He made the heretics understand this, and the boastful heretics also proclaimed everywhere: 'The householder Anathapindika possesses patience and tolerance, therefore he can see treasures with owners, treasures without owners, treasures on land, treasures in water, those that are far away, and those that are near.' When this sound spread, the monks reported it to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: 'Monks, even hundreds of thousands of myriads of heretics cannot know what qualities the householder Anathapindika possesses to see treasures. However, the householder Anathapindika's eyes are as bright as jewels, and he has upright speech, therefore he can see treasures with owners and treasures without owners.'
