He didn't leave anything. How long was it empty, when that householder saw it, he came to the monastery and said: Holy one, my monastery is empty, is there no one living there? The abbot of the Sangha said: Because the appearance is not good, it is not moist. The householder said: Holy one, how can a monastery built with salt walls and a conch shell roof be moist? The householder thought, I am not speaking, but there is no benefit to be gained there. He said: Holy one, now who lives in my monastery, (you) offered a large cloth. Nearsighted thought he had gained a benefit, came down in order, took his share, and that was living elsewhere, that was empty. How long after, a beggar, a person who prostrates to the stupa, came to Shravasti, he saw that empty monastery. He asked the monks: Whose is this monastery? They said: It is the monastery of the Sangha, but it belongs to the share of the monk Nearsighted. He went to Nearsighted and said: This monastery is your share. He said: Do it like that. He lived there, that beggar was a clever and not lazy person, so he oiled and cleaned it every day. There are five benefits to cleaning, namely: one's own mind is happy, others' minds are happy, the gods are happy, it becomes a beautiful root of virtue, etc., and after the body is destroyed, one will be reborn in the happy realm of the high heavens. Those who saw the oiling and cleaning of the monastery, they went to that householder and said, he was very happy after hearing it. How long after, another time he himself went there, saw the monastery being oiled and cleaned like that, he developed faith. He offered the beggar a large cloth, Nearsighted heard about it, hurried over and said: Beggar, this monastery is my share, give me the big cloth. The beggar thought: For this greedy person, even if I don't give it, he will take it by force.

Thinking that I too would be expelled from the monastery, the monks requested the Blessed One about this matter. The Blessed One said about this matter: "Whoever has faith arisen and acts with the increase of faith, that is the truth. The summer's gain is Niga's. The world loves merit, and even if oneself, one's son, and one's wife suffer, they will give to those who have merit. Brahmins and faithful householders invite the monks of the monastery to feasts. The monks of the monastery, for the sake of food, enter people's homes and steal what is not given, stealing from the monastery." The Blessed One said: "Close the door, take the key and enter." Those who steal what is not given also steal with the key. The Blessed One said: "Appoint a guarding monk and then enter, do not let him be busy with begging for alms." Those who steal what is not given lead other monks to come and say: "Let him open the door." The Blessed One said: "Use 'Is there sickness?' or 'No sickness' as a code. If they say 'There is sickness,' do not open the door. If they say 'No sickness,' then open it. Furthermore, the monks of the monastery should place something as soft as a leaf." The Blessed One said that the monks of the monastery should place something as soft as a leaf. The monks did not know what was as soft as a leaf. The Blessed One said: "Monks, what is as soft as a leaf is a dog, and the leftovers from the bowl should be given to it." Because the monks of the monastery kept dogs, the area around the stupa and the monastery were dug up everywhere with claws, and were defiled with feces and urine. The Blessed One said: "Monks, I will establish the code of conduct for monks keeping dogs. The monk who keeps a dog should get up early in the morning and clean the area around the stupa and the monastery, level the places dug up by claws, and also clean up the feces and urine. What is the code of conduct for a monk who keeps a dog?

If one does not properly take and practice according to the rules, it will become a serious offense. At that time, the venerable Neye became a resident of the Sangha in a certain monastery. After some time, another resident of the Sangha came there, and Neye thought: I have been serving as the resident of the Sangha in this monastery, either I should become the second resident, or I should go to another monastery. So he left that monastery and went to another monastery. Whatever offerings the second resident of that Sangha received, should have belonged to the resident of the Sangha, but he thought: My offerings are used up here, and my offerings are used up there, if there is nothing left, what is the use of the resident of the Sangha? So he hurried back to the original monastery. When half of the beds had been allocated, he arrived at the monastery and said: Allocate the monastery beds according to the order of seniority. The monks said: It's over. It was not allocated. Neye said: Venerable ones, are you going to let the Dharma decline while the Teacher is still alive? Allocate the monastery beds according to the order of seniority. At that time, the monks reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One taught: If someone has gone out for the affairs of the Sangha or the stupa, then his bed should be allocated according to the order of seniority. For others, it should be allocated according to the order of arrival. Neye, because of excessive attachment, thought: I will receive offerings from two monasteries. So he vowed to stay in two monasteries. After he finished his stay and received offerings, he did not receive anything from either side. When the monks were allocating beds and blaming each other, the monks reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One taught: He has promised to stay, so give him offerings. The monks gave him offerings from both monasteries, and the Blessed One taught: Do not give from both monasteries. If you only give from one monastery, the other monks will scold, ridicule, and blame, why stay in two monasteries at the same time?
