Since the venerable Nye-dga's conduct is similar to Brahma, we should also have the right to his gains. The monks gathered and redistributed them together. The monks of Yangpacan (Vaiśālī), the monks of Vārāṇasī, the monks of Rgyal-po'i-khab (Rājagṛha), and the monks of Tsampa also repeatedly gathered and distributed. Thus, the monks residing in the six great cities gathered. When the monks gathered and distributed, regarding the occasions when accepting teachings, reading, reciting, and remembering were forgotten, the monks requested the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: There are five reasons for distributing gains. What are the five? The bell (ghaṇṭā), the three lineages, the stupa, the Dharma tree, and the fifth is the request. When the bell of the deceased is struck, gains should be given to whoever comes. Reciting the three lineages, prostrating to the stupa, distributing the Dharma tree, and making requests are also the same. Monks, therefore, if all the belongings of the deceased are requested and then distributed, there will be no disputes. It can also be done like this: From "prepare in the residence" to "the entire Sangha has gathered and is in harmony" is the same as before. The belongings of the deceased are placed next to the elder, and one monk sits next to the elder and makes a request. Venerable Sangha, please listen. Here, the monk Nye-dga' has passed away. The situation is that the belongings of this deceased exist or do not exist. If the time is right and the Sangha permits, please allow the Sangha. Thus, the Sangha blesses the belongings of the deceased monk Nye-dga', whether they exist or not, as the belongings of the deceased. This is the request. Monks, this is the distribution of the belongings of the deceased, like this request. After the request, gains are not given to the monks who come later. The venerable Nye-ba 'khor (Ānanda) asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: Venerable, in a place where the Sangha is not in harmony and there is no request, should the belongings of the deceased be distributed? Or should they not be distributed? Nye-ba 'khor (Ānanda), the beginning and the end should be determined first, and then the distribution should be made. The monks should determine the beginning and the end.

Not knowing, the Blessed One taught: Transform one item, and from it give a little to the elder monks of the Sangha and to the younger monks of the Sangha, so that they may distribute it as they please, and do not regret it. The gains from the offerings or the possessions of the deceased who have not made a beginning or an end will be owned by all the disciples of the Buddha. The monks arose with doubts, and in order to dispel all doubts, they asked the Buddha, the Blessed One. Venerable one, look at that person who has perished due to inappropriate attachment. The Blessed One taught: Monks, not only now, but also in the past there were those who died due to inappropriate attachment, listen to this. Monks, in the past there was a hunter who shot an elephant in a vital spot with a poisoned arrow. Then, the elephant, distressed by the pain of being shot in a vital spot, followed the trail of the arrow, and the hunter took its life. Not long after, it happened that five hundred thieves robbed a mountain village and then came to that place. They saw the elephant. Because a famine had occurred, they said: Wise ones, having obtained this meat, two hundred and fifty will be responsible for slaughtering and cooking the elephant's meat, and two hundred and fifty will be responsible for fetching water. At that time, those who were slaughtering and cooking the elephant's meat thought: Wise ones, having done such a deed, we have obtained so much stolen goods, why should we give it to them? Let us eat the edible meat and soak the rest in poison. They ate the poisoned meat and died, and the stolen goods will become ours. So they ate the edible meat and soaked the rest in poison. Those who went to fetch water also considered in the same way, drank the drinkable water, poured the remaining poison into it, and then returned. Those who had eaten the meat also drank the water, and those who had drunk the water also ate the meat, and as a result, they all died. Not long after, a fox, bound by the noose of death, came to that place, and it saw all the corpses. Then, it thought with the pleasure born of attachment: I have obtained a great deal of food, I should enjoy it in order. So, it put the bowstring in its mouth, using the intestines
