Whatever is acquired by those two monasteries belongs to the resident monks of both monasteries. If the resident monks vow to observe the rains retreat with separate Uposathas in a hundred places, then whatever benefit is derived from that is offered to that very monastery. The resident monks who observe separate Uposathas should enjoy it. This is called the benefit obtained through boundaries. What is the benefit obtained through law? For example, the monks establish such a law: your house is such and such, our house is such and such, the main road, the market, the crossroads, and the triple crossroads are public. From there, if Brahmins and householders vow to observe the rains retreat in the places of those who have vowed, and give food to the monks who have not vowed, offer to those who have vowed, and draw water for those who have not vowed, then who has the right to the benefit? Only those who have vowed. If they vow to observe the rains retreat in the places of those who have vowed, and give food to the monks who have not vowed, draw water for those who have vowed, and offer to those who have not vowed, then who has the right to the benefit? Only those who have vowed. Vinaya-vastu, Volume Sixty-five. If they vow to observe the rains retreat in the places of those who have vowed, and give food to the monks who have not vowed, offer to those who have vowed, and only draw water for those who have not vowed, then who has the right to the benefit? Only those who have vowed. If they vow to observe the rains retreat in the places of those who have vowed, and give food to the monks who have not vowed, offer to the elders last, and draw water for those who have vowed, then who has the right to the benefit? Only those who have vowed.
