Not understanding the destination of this, have I fallen away from what I have indicated? Or is it that the teacher was not born from a lineage? Or are those signs not like that? The venerable Kundgawo (Ananda) said: Because you do not understand the destination of this, you have not well familiarized yourself with all the knowledge. For a while, completely understand all the knowledge, and then you can make predictions about the world later. Ridago (Deer Head) said: Have you seen or heard of anyone who is proficient in all knowledge? He said: The Tathagata, Arhat, Samyaksambuddha is the other shore of all knowledge. Then, Ridago (Deer Head) went to where the Blessed One was, and upon arriving, he reported to the Blessed One: If you want to go to the destination of beings such as animals, hungry ghosts, hell beings, gods, and humans, do not seek the behavior of the six realms of beings because of the faults of knowledge. Lord, you are the one who has crossed the great ocean of the three realms, surpassing all non-Buddhist debaters, what are the six realms you speak of? The Blessed One taught: The fire of iron that is burned by fire, after being struck by an iron hammer, gradually subsides, how does its destination not appear? Similarly, from the mire of desire, if one is truly liberated and obtains the unwavering state, their destination cannot be determined. After teaching thus, Ridago (Deer Head) reported to the Blessed One: Venerable, if I can be ordained and receive full ordination in the Dharma and Vinaya well spoken by you, and obtain the status of a Bhikshu, I will practice Brahmacharya in the presence of the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One let him be ordained and receive full ordination. After he was ordained and received full ordination, he stayed in Rajagriha for as long as he wanted to stay, and then went to Shravasti, gradually traveling and arriving in Shravasti, and stayed in the pavilion of the former Deer Mother Hall in Jeta Grove of Shravasti. Then, the Blessed One walked in the cloudless sky and saw the changes of the stars. After seeing this, the Blessed One said to the venerable Ridago (Deer Head): Ridago (Deer Head), how long do you think the gods will send down rain? After he thought about it, venerable

This world is bad, very bad. If compared to the movement of the stars, there will be no rain for twelve years. The Blessed One blessed the stars to be in harmony and said, 'Look again carefully.' He replied, 'Six years.' Similarly, the Blessed One spoke again, and he replied, 'Five years.' Similarly, until seven days. Then, the Blessed One said to the monks, 'Monks, move the ants to a sheltered place. Today, rain like sesame flour will fall. Those who bathe in it will not get leprosy and eye diseases.' Deer Head said that the stars are changing, swaying, and unstable. Life is also swaying and unstable. After the Blessed One said this, Deer Head developed great faith. Because of developing great faith, he directly realized the Arhatship. Then, he experienced the joy of liberation and said in verse: Deer rely on the forest, birds rely on the sky, meditators rely on the Dharma, Arhats rely on Nirvana. The mother of Deer Holder, Sagama, heard that the Blessed One was traveling in Kosala and arrived in Shravasti, residing in the Jetavana Anathapindika's Park in Shravasti. After hearing this, she went to where the Blessed One was, and upon arriving, she bowed to the Blessed One's feet with her head and sat to one side. The Blessed One taught the mother of Deer Holder, Sagama, with teachings in accordance with the Dharma, making her rejoice, until the Blessed One remained silent, as before. Then, the mother of Deer Holder, Sagama, rose from her seat, folded her palms towards where the Blessed One was, and said to the Blessed One, 'Blessed One, if tomorrow the Blessed One and the Sangha of monks would accept my offering at home, please allow it.' The Blessed One silently allowed Sagama. Starting from placing the jeweled water pot, the Blessed One

Then she sent a maidservant to announce the time. Soon, that maidservant went to the former garden, and looking through the crack in the door, saw the monks bathing naked. After seeing this, she thought: "Undoubtedly the holy ones have departed, and these wretched little ones have occupied this temple." She hurried back and said: "Mistress, please be aware, the holy ones have left, and the wretched little ones have occupied this temple." Sakyama thought: "The Blessed One allowed it, but to leave without announcing the time is inappropriate and unreasonable. Undoubtedly she saw the monks naked." So she sent another person to announce the time, and that person said: "Venerable one, the time has come, please let the Blessed One know that it is time." After the Blessed One agreed, he arranged his robes, picked up his bowl, and until he left, it was as before. The elder sat at the end and said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable one, I wish to prepare eight great offerings: giving to those who come from afar, giving to those who are about to die, giving to dancers, giving to dancing girls, the best wiping cloths, the best medicines, giving thick summer cloths to the monks, and bath towels to the nuns." The Blessed One said: "Sakyama, what merit do you see in giving to those who come from afar?" "Venerable one, the monks who come from afar are not familiar with the place and the roads, if they enjoy my offerings, they will become familiar with the place and the roads." Sakyama understood and said: "Good, good." "What meaning do you see in giving to those who are about to die?" "Venerable one, if the monk who is about to depart goes to beg for alms, he will be separated from his companions, and if he leaves the sangha, he will become poor, if he enjoys my offerings, he will not be separated from the sangha." Sakyama also understood and said: "Good, good." What meaning do you see?
