He said to his ministers: Wise ones, bring Jivaka here. They brought Jivaka, and he said: Jivaka, I have a tumor disease; please treat me. O deity, I will. He thought: There are two causes that can make a tumor burst: either extreme joy or extreme anger. But how could this sinful being become extremely joyful? Because an unbearable thought arose, saying, "Kill the crow," his tumor burst, and he began to vomit upwards and excrete downwards, with blood coming from his mouth. Seeing this, he fainted and fell to the ground. Then, water was sprinkled on him, and he regained his breath. After washing and being given suitable food, he returned to his former state. Then, Jivaka, having adorned the youth Good Fortune with all sorts of ornaments, led him to the king and knelt at his feet, saying: "O God, this is the youth Good Fortune. I cannot bear to take the life of even an ant or a grub, let alone a youth. However, by this method, the God will be healed, so I have devised this method." The king was greatly astonished and commanded his ministers: "Anoint Jivaka as the king of physicians." The ministers, mounted on an elephant, with great splendor and wealth, three times anointed him as the king of physicians, and thus he was anointed. Then, Jivaka became arrogant, thinking: "There is no physician equal to me. I am the best of those who treat the body, and the Blessed One is the best of those who treat the mind." Then, on another occasion, he went before the Blessed One, but because of his arrogance, he did not see the truth. The Blessed One thought: "If the king of physicians, Jivaka, has generated roots of virtue, why has he not seen the truth?" He saw that it was due to arrogance and thought, "I must dispel his arrogance." Then, the Blessed One said to the king of physicians, Jivaka: "Jivaka, have you seen the king of mountains, the Himalayas?" "Venerable One, I have not seen it." "Hold the edge of the Tathagata's robe." When he had grasped it, the Blessed One led the king of physicians, Jivaka, to where the king of mountains, the Himalayas, was, and there various kinds of medicines were blazing like lamps.
