Oh, how dull! If Shariputra had not received the instruction, they would not have understood that it had become warm. The son of Kena is a man with a topknot. How should one praise the Buddha? With a heart of great joy, listen respectfully together! In the house of the son of Kena, on one occasion, the Teacher, great Shravaka disciples, were invited to a feast. In the house of the son of Kena, while preparing the food, the Brahmin Riva saw it, and having seen it, asked the son of Kena: Are you taking a wife? Or has the king invited the neighbors? Or are you holding a great sacrifice? Tell me these things. I am neither taking a wife, nor have I invited the king or the neighbors. I have invited the Buddha, the most excellent Bodhisattva, to the feast. Having heard the sound of the Buddha, Riva felt sadness in his heart, and asked the son of Kena: Who is that Buddha? Tell me these things. Born from the Shakya clan, there exists an incomparable Teacher. Because he is endowed with wisdom in all dharmas, therefore he is called Buddha. The Buddha sees the nature of conditioned things to decay, likewise he sees the future, and also sees all that is happening now. All kinds of superknowledges, he has realized them all, therefore he knows everything. He knows all and sees all, therefore he is called Buddha. All that should be known has been known, all that should be cultivated has been cultivated, all that should be abandoned has been abandoned, therefore he is called Buddha. When he was born, this earth with its oceans and mountains shook greatly, I prostrate to him with folded hands. He destroyed the army of Mara and darkness, and obtained the power of the Tathagata, I prostrate to him with folded hands. Having departed from the city of Varanasi, he turned the twelve-aspect wheel of Dharma, I prostrate to him with folded hands. He liberated many beings who were bound by attachment, tormented by attachment and hatred, I prostrate to him with folded hands. Whichever Buddha, the Bhagavan, as long as the Guide exists, from this day forth I go for refuge to the light of the Shakya clan.

That delightful garden, where is the Brahmin's Dharma? Like the king of the Gandharvas, the unsurpassed Buddha is seen. That radiant saffron robe, possessing the light of the golden sun. Like pure gold, as if a form were made from gold. Like the flowers of the Sal tree, and the flowers of the Karnikara. Like a jeweled stupa adorned with various jewels. Like a Nyagrodha tree, the water surface is covered, and the surrounding fathom of light illuminates everything. Having abandoned the flourishing kingdom and relatives, and all delightful desires, manifesting the appearance of renunciation, the Muni delights in solitary places. Like a lion with rising fragrance, fearless in the forest. Speaking fearlessly like a lion, the Brahmin sees the Buddha. With a smiling, gentle speech, the speech of Brahma and pleasant speech, like the speech of the sound of a drum, the Brahmin sees the Buddha. The pure moon in the sky, surrounded by stars, like a mandala of the moon, the Brahmin sees the Buddha. Possessing the light of the sun, beautiful on the surface of the sky, the Buddha is free from darkness, beautiful, the Brahmin sees the Buddha. Just as the best of the herd of cows, possessing horns and unmoving. The best of men, possessing the ten powers, the Brahmin sees the Buddha. The ocean is deep, the great water is immeasurable, the Buddha is the supreme of meditators, inconceivable, unsurpassed, seen. Arising from the dark side, the sun is clear in the sky, like a burning heap of fire, Gautama Buddha is seen. Just as a Chakravartin king, surrounded by billions of attendants, similarly the perfect Buddha, adorned with Arhats leading. Like having power over desires, like the great Brahma Ishvara, the three thousand world realms, the Muni transforms with power. Hearing brings near peace, liberating from the great ocean of suffering, various sufferings, and whatever is the origin of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the path with its eight branches.

Like the taste of unextracted honey, He thoroughly expounds the truths. He bestows wealth upon the poor, And also heals the sick. Having become a refuge for those harmed, He liberates beings from suffering. To sentient beings in darkness, And foolish ones wandering astray, He clearly shows the straight path To bliss and passing beyond sorrow. As all the desires and hatred burn, And ignorance intensely blazes for beings, Like great clouds pouring down rain, The Great Sage pacifies them. With form, color, and strength, There is none equal to him. His body is firm and possesses supreme strength, He abides steadfastly like a mountain. Gain and loss, pleasure and pain, Disparagement and praise, Fame and obscurity, Do not stain him like a lotus in water. Having completely abandoned killing, He does not rejoice in what is not given. He speaks the truth and practices celibacy, He has abandoned slander. He does not speak harsh words, But speaks gently at the right time. He has no covetousness for desires, His mind is loving towards beings. He is endowed with perfect right view, His realm of activity is the power of samadhi. Great contemplation and six superknowledges, He travels in the sky by means of miracles. The sounds of gods and humans, He hears all kinds of forms. Whether afflicted or virtuous, He also knows the minds of others. Wherever he has previously resided, He is skilled in past abodes, He knows the going and coming of sentient beings, He knows death, transference, and birth. With defilements exhausted and without attachment, He attains complete peace and passes into nirvana. His senses are pacified and his mind is at peace, He abides like a full ocean. Like an elephant in a lotus pond, Like a noble one who has reached sixty years, Seeing him, one never knows satiety, The Brahmin will obtain joy. Mount Ribo, the Blessed One, is like this, His body possesses the thirty-two marks Of a great being, and his splendor is like a heap of fire. Even if one were to praise The protector for a full hundred years, Because the Thus-Gone One is immeasurable, One would not reach the end. Whatever Brahmin sees him, His gain is unsurpassed. Whoever sees him and goes for refuge, His gain is even more excellent. Brahmin Ribo, having heard the Great Sage's Praise, grew weary.
