Then, in an instant, he disappeared from Aduma and arrived at the bank of a slowly flowing pond, abiding in such a samadhi. Then, the Blessed One sat in the midst of the community of monks on the seat that had been prepared. Then, the great king Dhritarashtra, with a retinue of many Gandharvas, a retinue of hundreds of Gandharvas, a retinue of thousands of Gandharvas, and a retinue of hundreds of thousands of Gandharvas, filled containers with divine jewels and went to where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, he scattered the divine jewels upon the Blessed One, bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, and sat facing the Blessed One and the community of monks, leaning towards the east. The great king Virudhaka also, with a retinue of many Kumbhandas, a retinue of hundreds of Kumbhandas, a retinue of thousands of Kumbhandas, and a retinue of hundreds of thousands of Kumbhandas, filled containers with divine pearls and went to where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, he scattered the divine pearls upon the Blessed One, bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, and sat facing the Blessed One and the community of monks, leaning towards the south. The great king Virupaksha also, with a retinue of many Nagas, a retinue of hundreds of Nagas, a retinue of thousands of Nagas, and a retinue of hundreds of thousands of Nagas, filled containers with divine flowers such as utpalas, lotuses, kumudas, white lotuses, and mandaravas, and went to where the Blessed One was.

Then he departed, scattering celestial perfume and gold upon the Blessed One, and bowed his head at the two feet of the Blessed One. Facing the Blessed One and the Sangha of monks, he sat down leaning towards the north. Among them, there are two types of central lineages: Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Ugrasena. There are two types of border lineages: Virūpākṣa and Vaiśravaṇa's son. Then, the Blessed One thought to himself: If I teach the Dharma in the language of the center, only two will understand, and the other two will not. If I teach in the language of the border, only two will understand, and the other two will not. Rather, I will teach the Dharma in the language of the center to two, and teach the Dharma in the language of the border to the other two. Thinking thus, the Blessed One spoke to the great king Dhṛtarāṣṭra: Great king, thus when the body is destroyed, feeling becomes cold, perception ceases, all formations are pacified, and consciousness is extinguished, that itself is the end of suffering. When this Dharma discourse was spoken, the great king Dhṛtarāṣṭra and many hundreds of thousands of Gandharvas who shared the same fortune as him, developed the stainless, immaculate eye of Dharma towards the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One spoke to the great king Ugrasena: Great king, in that, for you, in seeing, let it be just seeing; in hearing, in perceiving, in cognizing, let it be just cognizing. When this Dharma discourse was spoken, the great king Ugrasena and many hundreds of thousands of Kumbhāṇḍas who shared the same fortune as him, developed the stainless, immaculate eye of Dharma towards the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One spoke to the great king Virūpākṣa: Great king, thus, Ene Mene, Dabe, Dadape, this itself is the end of suffering. When this Dharma discourse was spoken, the great king Virūpākṣa and many hundreds of thousands of Nāgas who shared the same fortune as him, developed the stainless, immaculate eye of Dharma towards the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One spoke to the great king Vaiśravaṇa's son.

P. Thus, the great kings Masha, Tusha, Sangshama, and Sarvatraviradi are the end of suffering. When this Dharma discourse was given, hundreds of thousands of yakshas, including the great King Vaishravana and those of equal merit, developed the Dharma eye, free from dust and defilement, towards the Dharma. The Blessed One thought: Now that the time for my complete Nirvana is near, to whom shall I entrust the teachings before I pass away? If I entrust them to the gods, they are mostly fond of negligence and will not remain for long. If I entrust them to humans, their lives are short, and they will not remain for long either. Instead, I shall entrust the teachings to the gods, humans, and the venerable Kashyapa, and then pass into Nirvana. Thinking thus, he spoke to the great King Dhritarashtra: Great King, you should protect the teachings after my Nirvana from the east. He then spoke to the great King Virudhaka: Great King, you should also protect from the south. He then spoke to the great King Virupaksha: Great King, you should also protect from the west. He then spoke to the great King Vaishravana: Great King, you should also protect from the north. Then, the four great kings, with hearts full of joy, said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, we shall do as you have instructed. Blessed One, we shall protect. Having said this, they saw the truth from the Blessed One, bowed their heads to his feet, and departed from the presence of the Blessed One. The Blessed One entrusted all the affairs of the teachings to the venerable Mahakashyapa, and also said to the venerable Ananda: Ananda, you should also strive for the affairs of the teachings. The monks arose with doubts, and in order to dispel all doubts, they asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: Venerable One, what deeds did the four great kings perform that, due to the ripening of those deeds, they became the four great kings? They declared the truth before the Blessed One.
