The prince's son also gave away my share as alms. Similarly, the son, daughter-in-law, male servant, and female servant also relinquished their respective shares completely. Then, all of them gathered and offered alms to the Pratyekabuddha. Those great beings, not teaching the Dharma with their bodies, nor with words, but like the king of swans spreading its wings, manifestly rose into the sky, and then began to perform miracles of blazing, shining, raining, and producing lightning. Those ordinary individuals, because they quickly turned their minds to miracles, like trees cut from their roots and falling, touched their feet to the ground and began to pray for whatever wishes they desired. The householder prayed: "By whatever root of virtue I have done by serving such a holy object of offering, may it be that if I look upon empty granaries and storehouses, they become filled in that very instant of seeing. May I also obtain such Dharmas, and may I please teachers who are even more excellent than this, and not displease them." The wife prayed: "By whatever root of virtue I have done by serving such a holy object of offering, may it be that if I cook something in a vessel for one person, even if a hundred or a thousand eat it, it will not be completely exhausted as long as I do not stop cooking. May I also obtain such Dharmas, and may I please teachers who are even more excellent than this, teachers, and not displease them." The son prayed: "By whatever root of virtue I have done by serving such a holy object of offering, may it be that if I have a container of five hundred measures attached to my waist, even if I give to a hundred or a thousand, it remains full and will not be completely exhausted. May I also obtain such Dharmas, and may I please teachers who are even more excellent than this, and not displease them." The daughter-in-law prayed: "By whatever root of virtue I have done by serving such a holy object of offering, may it be that if I mix fragrances for one person, even if a hundred or a thousand smear it, it will not be exhausted as long as I do not stop mixing. Also having obtained these dharmas, may I please the teachers who are more excellent than this, and may I not do what displeases the teachers. The servant prayed: By whatever root of virtue I have done by acting towards such a field of merit, may I, if I plow one furrow of land, then plow seven furrows. Also having obtained these dharmas, may I please the teachers who are more excellent than this, and may I not do what displeases the teachers. The maidservant prayed: By whatever root of virtue I have done by acting towards such a field of merit, may I, if I scoop up one container's worth, then increase to seven containers' worth. Also having obtained these dharmas, may I please the teachers who are more excellent than this, and may I not do what displeases the teachers. After they had prayed in this way, that great self-realized one, out of compassion for them, went by means of magical power, and soon arrived at the roof of King Brahma-given's palace and sat down. The shadow of going by means of magical power fell upon King Brahma-given, and he began to look upwards, and having seen that self-realized one, he thought: With the great plow of magical power of this great being, whose roots of poverty will he uproot again? Then, that householder looked at the treasuries and storehouses with great hope, and soon saw that they were full. He said to his wife: For the time being, my wish has been fulfilled, now it is your turn to look. Then, the maidservant scooped up one container's worth of rice, and it increased to seven containers' worth. The wife cooked in a vessel for the sake of one person, but even though all of them ate, it remained just as it was. Even though thousands of nearby creatures ate, it remained just as it was. Then, that householder had it proclaimed in Varanasi (Bārāṇasī): Wise ones, whoever among you needs something, come! The king heard a clear and loud sound coming from Varanasi (Bārāṇasī), and he said: Wise ones, what is this clear and loud sound? The ministers said: God, it is a certain householder.
