Having stroked Then, he anointed my head all over. With mind completely delighted, you have accumulated much merit. With mind completely delighted, the small offering will not change. You have relied on the unsurpassed object of offering, the Buddha. The Brahmin boy has made offerings, sown seeds in the excellent field. Having cut off the path of bad destinies, you have no fear of falling into bad destinies. The Brahmin boy, with nectar, opened the door, practiced without doubt. If you wish to renounce, quickly abandon all excellence, Renounce before me, become a Brahmin without stain. I delight in the nature of Dharma, there I speak of the assembly of disciples. Since you have become a Brahmin, how can you become a shaven-headed Shramana? Having abandoned this white lineage, do you accept this black lineage? In the world, Brahmins are supreme, having reached the other shore and being of Brahma, born from the heart and mouth, Brahmins are emanations of Brahma. You are all unwise, you are all ignorant. Here, my secret words, he knows and reaches the other shore. I, with boundless wisdom, know as it is said. Thus it is done, who does not want to go there? As you wish, wherever you please, let them go. I do not seek the meaning of secret words, nor do I rely on them. Then my disciples, with eyes filled with tears and faces of sorrow, saying "Alas, alas," then they departed in different directions. Then, the compassionate one, the Able One, said to me: "Bhikkhu, come here," thus bestowing the command, I became fully ordained. From home to homelessness, having renounced with true faith. Having accomplished the Buddha's teachings, having realized all the abhijñās, Remembering past lives, the divine eye is purified. I know where I was before, death and rebirth. Having attained the exhaustion of defilements, I have manifested miracles. Thus, the elder with causes, sitting before the assembly of monks, In the great Lake Anavatapta, declared his own karma. The chapter of the Elder with Causes, the thirty-second.

Then, the venerable elder monks said to the venerable Kauṇḍinya: "Venerable Kauṇḍinya, the venerable Hetu has already declared the cause of his karma. Venerable Kauṇḍinya, now please declare the cause of your karma as well." Then, the venerable Kauṇḍinya then declared the cause of his karma: "In the past, when the great hero Light Protector's sacred Dharma was declining, all the śrāvakas gathered and said to each other: 'The teacher, the compassionate Light Protector, has certainly passed into nirvāṇa, and ordination has certainly diminished, and the sacred Dharma will no longer be taught. After we have correctly clarified the Dharma that we have heard to each other, we will abide in the Buddha's teachings with joy and diligence. After they climbed the mountain, before they attained the exhaustion of defilements, they said, 'We will not rise from here for a while,' and sat on the grass cushions. Without regard for their lives, when they abided with diligence, seven attained supernormal knowledge. The monks have passed into nirvāṇa, and the seventh of them is me, dull of senses and with little sleep, diligent in uninterrupted yoga, what the ordinary person did at the time of death. I did not abandon diligence, and abiding diligently in this way, I was born in the worlds of the gods, equal in merit to the Tuṣita gods. There I saw the Śākya lion, the great hero Bodhisattva. The capable one taught the Dharma that causes aversion to the assembly of gods. After I heard his teaching, I became single-minded, and I did not abandon the sacred Dharma in my mind many times. After I descended from the heavenly realm, I was born in the city called Kapilavastu, in the Brahmin lineage of the Kauṇḍinya family. Possessing the great fame of a Bodhisattva, after becoming the son of Śuddhodana, I went forth with faith and practiced austerities. At that time, the excellent king Śuddhodana summoned me and said: 'Please go forth, and there attend to his illness.' At that time, with faith, I served the Bodhisattva, wondering whether this path would be pure and unchanging, and then I departed. When'

When Shakyamuni Buddha turned the wheel of Dharma, I was the first of all to realize that sacred Dharma. In the scriptures of Light Protector, I abide in celibacy. I pleased the Buddha and attained the exhaustion of defilements. Thus, the elder Kaundinya, sitting before the assembly of monks, prophesied his own karma in the great lake of Anavatapta. The chapter of Kaundinya, the thirty-third, is complete. Then, the elder monks said to the venerable Nera: Venerable Nera, the venerable Kaundinya has finished prophesying the cause of his own karma. Venerable Nera, now you should also prophesy the cause of your own karma. Venerable Nera then prophesied the cause of his own karma: In a previous lifetime, in the kingdom of Varanasi, I was a barber for a king named Brahma-datta. When I shaved and adorned his hair and beard, he was very pleased and gave me clothes. With respect and compassion, when I served the king, he was pleased and recited a verse that I had never heard before: Desires are of little taste, the root of suffering and the root of sorrow, their ripening is fierce. Whichever Brahmin boy, having abandoned the qualities of desire, obtains ordination is a good attainment. Having heard that verse that I had never heard before, I became disgusted, and (said to the king) King, please grant me permission, I want to renounce the household and go forth. Then the king said to me: Even if you have gone forth, you should still look back at me, this is a promise to be made. King, I promise you that even after I have gone forth, I will look back at you, please trust me. Then the king granted permission, and I went to a solitary forest, approached those who possessed scriptures, and went forth without a home. Having gone forth properly, diligently practicing the immeasurable (meditations) of the four Brahma-viharas, I attained freedom from desire. In the time of that king, at that time my name was Ganga.
