Therefore. At that time, I offered a small umbrella to the stupa with a joyful heart. Because I performed the virtuous act of offering an umbrella, I prayed to be together with the fully enlightened Buddha. Because I did that virtuous deed, wherever I was born, I became a beautiful god and human due to merit. In my last life, I was born in a wealthy warehouse, where I was also born into a merchant's family and became the only son. King Kau (kau) was joyful and pleasant, and so were all the people, and so were I and my relatives. Beautiful and pleasing to the eye, handsome in appearance, and excellent in shape, with all desires fulfilled by human wealth. The teacher, joyful and pleasant, when he went to the wealthy warehouse, I saw him and had faith in my heart, and I prayed to be ordained. The teacher is an incomparable person, skilled in all thoughts, and he knew my thoughts and prevented me from being ordained. The Buddhas do not ordain those who are not allowed by their parents, so go and liberate yourself. Then I went home and said to my parents: Father, please allow me to be ordained, I do not want to be at home. When my parents heard my words, they were unhappy at that time and said: You, our only son, we will not allow you to be ordained even if we die. After hearing those words, I said: If you do not allow me, I will die here without eating, and then I lay on the ground. At that time, encouraged by the white Dharma, I sought ordination, desiring liberation, and stayed without eating any food for six days. Then, my friend said to my parents: It would be good if you allowed him to be ordained, what is the use of you dying? If he likes to be ordained, you can see him alive later, what is the use of dying? If he is not happy to be ordained, where else can a son be other than your parents? My friend spoke good words, and the parents said to him: If he wants to see ordination, let him see it, but do not do anything else.

Then, the master of Neu (place name) came to me and said: "Wise one, your parents have allowed you to be ordained, Your parents said to you: 'If you are ordained, We will come to see you later, A son has gone, been ordained, Very good.'" After I heard this, Then I increased my faith, Went before the Teacher, And said these words: "Venerable one, if you allow me, In the Dharma of the great Teacher, I pray for the Sugata to be ordained, Victor, I wish to be ordained." After that, I was ordained, And lived like this in the Teacher's Dharma, All my afflictions are exhausted, The defilements have been destroyed. Because I gave an umbrella, I experienced much happiness, Because of doing good deeds, I became beautiful, Reborn as gods and humans. The All-Seeing One pointed me out, As the best of all hermits. I also attained the coolness of Nirvana, And became an Arhat. Like this, towards the Great Compassionate Victor, I generated great faith, And also showed great respect to the stupa, Liberated from great fear. The Elder holding the fly-whisk, Named Dhṛtarāṣṭra (Holder of the Nation), In the great lake of Matroba, Prophesied his own karma. The Eighteenth Chapter, Holder of the Nation. Vinaya-vastu, Volume Fifty-three. Then, the Bhikshu Elders said to the venerable Saga: "Venerable Saga, the venerable Holder of the Nation has already prophesied his own karma, Venerable Saga, now you also prophesy your own karma." Then, the venerable Saga at that time prophesied his own karma: "Among the merchants of Rajagriha, I was the master of wealth. During the summer season, Five hundred sages came near. There, five hundred merchants also, All gathered together, Everyone divided each sage, Into each household. For one's own benefit, food, How it was cooked, For each ascetic, Always giving the same food. Among them, an old sage, Came to my share. Like treating the best merchant,

The Buddha is supreme, it is fitting. I have five hundred portions of food, taken from the container, that kind of food, I gave to that monk. After that, I developed an extremely unbearable stinginess towards that monk. Such food, I have never given to my wife, nor have I given it to my sisters, sons and daughters, or even brothers. What need is there to mention giving offerings to this monk for three months? I have become a huge dispute here because of the five hundred portions of food. I tried hard to kill this monk, thinking that if he died, I would not be punished. Then, with an evil mind, I boiled horse urine, and in order to kill the innocent monk, I gave him the urine along with the food. As soon as he ate it, he immediately fell seriously ill, and his intestines, kidneys, etc. flowed out from his lower body. The Buddha loved the merits of the Dharma, and in a state of awareness, he passed away. Gods and yakshas shouted loudly to each other: 'Alas, this merchant is so evil! He killed the solitary Buddha who had attained coolness, was without outflows, and was independent.' All the relatives were angry, and then they began to scold me: 'You killed the Buddha and created many evil deeds!' Hearing the words of the relatives, I also felt unhappy. I gathered those ascetics, and then I confessed my sins to them. After asking for forgiveness, I confessed all the sins one by one. With five hundred portions of food, I respectfully satisfied them. I confessed that sin, asked for the forgiveness of those ascetics, and after satisfying them with food and drink, at that time I made the aspiration: May I be with these venerable ones, just as they are all liberated, may I also be liberated from bondage. May I never be born in the home of misers, may stinginess never arise in my mind. Because I did the extremely evil deed of killing the solitary Buddha, after death I was born in hell, and suffered for thousands of years.
