If you think that by completely giving away difficult-to-give donations, one can attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, you should not view it that way. However, my loving-kindness and difficult-to-give donations are merely the cause, condition, and accumulation for unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Great King, furthermore, listen to what I did when I became a rabbit in order to seek unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, when I gave my own flesh to a hermit. Great King, in the past, in a mountain forest abundant with springs, flowers, fruits, and roots, lived a hermit with intense asceticism, who consumed fruits, roots, and water, wore bark and animal skins, and performed fire offerings. That hermit had a friend, a rabbit who could speak human language, who would come to him. During the day, the rabbit would go to the hermit, prostrate and pay homage, and make him very happy with various kinds of talk, so that the two of them lived together affectionately like father and son. After some time, a great drought occurred, causing the rivers and streams to become shallow, and the trees no longer had flowers and fruits. Then, that hermit, lacking food in that dwelling place, became particularly unhappy and began to gather bark and animal skins. Then, the rabbit, seeing him engaged in such activity, asked: Great hermit, where are you going? The hermit said: I will go to the vicinity of the village and live there on alms that have been prepared. Then, upon hearing the hermit's words, it felt sorrow, thinking as if it were separated from its parents, and touching the hermit with its two feet, it said to the hermit: Please do not abandon me! Moreover, living in a house is disturbed by many faults, while living in solitude is abundant with many virtues. He did not reply, but unable to dissuade him, the rabbit then said: If that is the case, then at least stay here for today, and tomorrow depart as you please. Then, that hermit thought to himself: This fellow surely intends to invite me for a meal today, these beings who have fallen into the realm of animals like this

想到他会努力等等，因此他答应了他。然后做完用火的准备，到了吃饭的时候，兔子去了，绕着那位仙人转，开始请求宽恕。大仙人，我生于畜生道，不知取舍，对您稍有冒犯，请您宽恕我！说完，立刻跳进了火里。然后，那位仙人感到不高兴，眼睛里充满了泪水，像对待自己唯一的爱子一样拥抱他，说道：孩子，你打算做什么？兔子说：大仙人，请您喜欢住在寂静的地方，用我的肉来维持一天的生命吧！此外，森林里长大的兔子，芝麻等等，门司豌豆和稻米粥，什么没有呢？我的身体，已经很好地烧成了灰烬，请您在这里享用，今天就在森林里苦修吧！然后，那位仙人听到兔子的话，感到不高兴，说道：如果那样，你喜欢怎样就怎样吧！我宁愿在这里舍弃生命，也不会走到村庄的边缘。兔子听到那些话，心里很高兴，抬起头，看着天空，开始祈祷，说道：如果安住在寂静的森林里，自己喜欢隐居，用真实的语言，愿大能的天神降下雨水！刚说完，菩萨的威力使大自在天的处所震动了。诸神的智慧看到下面正在发生的事情，看到是菩萨的威力，于是，诸神之主帝释天降下了大自在天的雨水。那雨水使那个地方重新长满了草、树木、药材、鲜花和丰盛的果实。然后，那位仙人依靠善知识兔子，在那里安住，现证了五种神通。然后，那位仙人说道：唉！兔子，你以这种难行的精进和慈悲，到底想得到什么？兔子说：为了引导没有引导者的盲人世界，为了引导没有引导者的众生。

The rabbit said: Great hermit, please be pleased to dwell in solitude, and sustain yourself for one day with my flesh! Moreover, for a rabbit that grows in the forest, there are sesame seeds and so on, Munsri peas and rice porridge, what is there not? This body of mine, which has been well burned into ashes, please partake of it here, and today dwell in asceticism in the forest! Then, that hermit, hearing the words of the rabbit, became unhappy and said: If that is so, let whatever happens as you please happen! I would rather give up my life here than go to the edge of the village. The rabbit, hearing those words, became very happy, raised his head, looked at the surface of the sky, and began to pray, saying: If one dwells in a solitary forest, and one likes to be secluded, by the words of truth, may the powerful gods send down rain! As soon as he said this, by the power of the Bodhisattva, the abode of the Great Powerful One was shaken. The knowledge of the gods seeing what was happening below, seeing that it was the power of the Bodhisattva, then, Indra, the lord of the gods, sent down the rain of the Great Powerful One. That rain caused that place to be filled again with grass, trees, herbs, flowers, and abundant fruits. Then, that hermit, relying on the virtuous friend rabbit, dwelt there and directly realized the five superknowledges. Then, that hermit said: Alas! Rabbit, with this difficult to do diligence and such compassion, what do you really seek? The rabbit said: To guide the blind world without a guide, to guide the beings without a guide.
