Then take it slowly. Extend your hands quickly. Take whatever you want. For Bodhisattvas, there is nothing they don't give, so take it. Either cut off my flesh and take it, or you can have my teeth if you want. This is generated for the sake of loving others, so enjoy this body as you please. Even though I could enter the city of Nirvana, I have entered the difficult-to-traverse cycle of existence. Being the basis of omniscience itself, loving others is its cause. Then the hunter felt ashamed, but thinking of the king's command, he said, "I need your teeth." The Bodhisattva said, "Slowly pull them out and take them." The hunter said, "Please be careful. I dare not pull out your teeth." Why is that? If I were to pull out the teeth of you, the embodiment of compassion, I would surely be burned by the fire of loving-kindness, wouldn't my hands split apart? The Bodhisattva said, "If that is the case, then I myself will pull them out and give them away." Then he pulled out the teeth that were deeply rooted, and blood flowed from the great being. Seeing that, it served as an example for others: The blood that flowed from pulling out the teeth stained the entire valley, like it was covered with water lilies, that body was glorious and beautiful. The mountain with snow covering the top, radiant with light, the painted peaks were washed away by the rain, like water washing away paint. Then the Bodhisattva, in order to uplift his spirit, said, "Heart, now be firm, what is there to be confused about? Also, look upon the poor and helpless world. You are the protector of those who are dominated by birth and death. Therefore, there is no reason to be discouraged here today." In the meantime, the face of the sky was filled with gods who were amazed and delighted, and various wonders also occurred. Then a god, seeing the Bodhisattva performing such a difficult deed, said, "Friend, the abode of the great one is truly amazing, the teeth have been pulled out, and although weakened by the pain, yet

A mind endowed with compassion will not turn away from enlightenment. Then another god said to him: The suffering arising from pulling teeth, he himself experiences, yet his compassion manifestly increases for sentient beings dwelling in hell. Whoever has that kind of mind, how could he turn away from enlightenment? Then, after the Bodhisattva pulled out those teeth, he himself felt afflicted and sat without saying a word. Then the hunter felt displeased, thinking: Does this person hold onto his teeth and not want to give them away? Then, the Bodhisattva, knowing his thoughts, stretched out his trunk like a kunda flower and said: Friend, wait a moment. These six excellent teeth, like the roots of water lilies, the moon, and lotuses, you take and give as alms. I am happy holding them. Please wait a moment, and for the receiver, as he approaches, meet him with a mind tormented by suffering. If you examine me, may your heart be filled with joy. If you think I am a killer, jealous, deceitful, shameless person, you should understand that you kill with a wicked club and a fierce bow, and sharp arrows, and then, seeing that which has become the banner of the noble monastic robe, may your heart be filled with joy. Some giving is superior to receiving, and likewise, some giving is superior to the giver. Therefore, here, strive to truly generate the purity of merit from your own mind. Then, the Bodhisattva thought: This is the banner of freedom from desire, and so he contemplated that monastic robe, his heart filled with joy. He gave those teeth from his own hand and said: If, when a poisoned arrow strikes my heart, I have no displeasure at all, by that truthful vow, may I attain perfect enlightenment and completely liberate all miserable beings from suffering. Great King, what do you think? At that time, at that moment, if you think that the king of elephants who became the six-tusked elephant was someone else, you should not see it that way, but rather, I myself was the king of elephants called the six-tusked elephant at that time, at that moment. Great King, at that time I cultivated the mind of love,
