No more. The cowherd Gawa will come after entrusting the cows to the owners. What is that for? Because sons of good families shave their hair and beards, put on robes, and with pure faith alone, from home to homelessness, after renouncing, in this very life, with their own direct knowledge, realize and perfect the unsurpassed limit of pure conduct, and birth is exhausted. Pure conduct has been established. What needs to be done has been done. They will understand that there is no other existence beyond this. Then, at another time, the cowherd Gawa, after entrusting the cows to the owners, went with five hundred attendants to where the Blessed One was, and upon arriving, said to the Blessed One: Venerable, I have entrusted the cows to the owners. Venerable, if I could renounce and receive full ordination in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, and obtain the status of a Bhikshu, I would practice pure conduct in the presence of the Blessed One. In the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, the cowherd Gawa, together with five hundred attendants, renounced and received full ordination, and obtained the status of a Bhikshu. Having renounced in this way, from "the venerable so-and-so" to "the mind is completely liberated," it is the same as before. The nature of Dharma is that when a son or daughter of the gods is born, three thoughts arise not long after: from where did they die and transmigrate, where were they born, and what karma caused it. The former playful frog god saw that he had died and transmigrated from the animal realm, and was born among the gods of the Four Great Kings, and that it was because of the great faith he had in the Blessed One, so he thought: It is not my way to wait until tomorrow to see and pay homage to the Blessed One. I should go immediately to see and pay homage to the Blessed One. Then, the former playful frog god, holding the shaking, stainless earrings, from... to illuminating the entire Ganges shore with great light, scattered flowers on the Blessed One, and sat before the Blessed One to listen to the Dharma.

The interval is as before. Then, the Blessed One, knowing the thoughts, habits, faculties, and nature of the deva son who had previously been a frog, taught him the Dharma that corresponded to them, which would lead to the individual realization of the Four Noble Truths. After hearing this, starting from what is called "hearing," he manifestly accomplished the fruit of entering the stream by destroying with the vajra of wisdom the twenty high peaks of the mountain of viewing existence as a collection, which had been accumulated since beginningless time. Monk, I have attained! I have manifestly attained enlightenment! The interval is as before. I go for refuge to the Blessed One, the Dharma, and the Sangha of monks. I beseech the Blessed One to accept me as a lay follower. From this day forward, for as long as I live, I will rely on refuge even at the cost of my life, with manifest faith. Then, the deva son who had previously been a frog, like a merchant who has gained profit, a farmer who has had a good harvest, a hero who has been victorious in battle, or a sick person who has been freed from all diseases, with whatever wealth he had obtained, came before the Blessed One and returned to his own abode. Monks, those who do not sleep in the upper and lower parts of the night, but diligently apply themselves to practice, see a great light before the Blessed One. Having seen it, they became doubtful and asked the Blessed One: Blessed One, is it Brahma, the lord of the Sahā world, or Indra, the lord of the gods, or the Four Great Kings who have come to behold you and the Blessed One? Monks, it is not Brahma, the lord of the Sahā world, who has come to behold me, nor is it Indra, the lord of the gods, nor are the Four Great Kings. However, the cowherd Gawa stepped on the frog, crushing its vital points, and its words became fragmented, thinking that the cowherd Gawa's conversation would be interrupted, so it remained motionless and without making a sound, and died with pure faith arising in me, and was reborn as a god in the retinue of the Four Great Kings. He came to behold me, and I taught him the Dharma, and he realized the truth and then returned to his own abode. Monks, doubts arose, all doubts
