Having scattered flowers to the Bhagavan, they sat around the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan, knowing their thoughts, habits, inclinations, and nature, taught them the Dharma that would lead to the realization of the four noble truths, starting from "From beginningless time, the mountain of the view of the perishable aggregate, as high as twenty mountain peaks, has been destroyed by the vajra of wisdom, thus manifestly achieving the fruit of stream-entry." They thus saw the truth, and thrice specifically proclaimed, specifically proclaiming thus: 'Venerable one, what you have done for us, our father has not done, our mother has not done, our own relatives and kin have not done, the king has not done, the gods have not done, the ancestors of the past have not done, the ascetics and brahmins have not done. Bhagavan, you have done this for us, pulling our feet out of hell and the realm of the hungry ghosts, placing us in the realm of gods and humans, making us distant from samsara, drying up the ocean of blood and tears, delivering us from the mountain of bones, closing the doors of the evil realms, opening the doors to higher realms and liberation. From beginningless time, the mountain of the view of the perishable aggregate, as high as twenty mountain peaks, has been destroyed by the vajra of wisdom, thus manifestly achieving the fruit of stream-entry. Venerable one, we are noble ones! We are supremely noble ones! We go for refuge to the Buddha Bhagavan, the Dharma, and the Sangha of monks, we beseech you to accept us as lay practitioners. From this day forward, for as long as we live, we are willing to even offer our lives to take refuge, we have unwavering faith in this.' Then, those sons of the gods who were formerly fish, geese, and turtles, like merchants who have gained profit, from "returning to their own abodes" until the end, is as before. The monks arose with doubt, and in order to cut off all doubt, they asked the Buddha Bhagavan: 'Venerable one, what deeds did these fish, geese, and turtles do, that they were born as geese, fish, and turtles? And what deeds did they do, that they were born as gods and saw the truth?' The Bhagavan replied: 'Monks,'
