Those messengers from the border kingdoms also entered with him. Then, the Venerable Ananda said to the Brahmin King Misradatta, 'May you be free from illness!' Then he sat to one side. Having sat to one side, the Venerable Ananda said to the Brahmin King Misradatta, 'Great King, the Blessed One said, may you be free from illness! Great King, I have stayed in your kingdom for three months, please know this.' Venerable Ananda, I prostrate to the Buddha, the Blessed One! Venerable Ananda, are the Blessed One and the Sangha spending the summer happily in the border of the Jiga country? Has begging for alms not made you tired?' Those messengers from the border kingdoms said, 'O god, you are not concerned about the kingdom! Like this, the Blessed One and the Sangha of Hearers have been invited for three months, staying in an unknown place, and the Blessed One has been eating rotten barley for three months.' He said, 'Venerable Ananda, has the Blessed One been eating rotten barley for three months?' 'Great King, yes.' He fainted and fell to the ground. After pouring a lot of water, he regained his breath. He summoned the ministers and said, 'Wise ones, didn't I order you to prepare five hundred portions of food and drink every day and give abundant alms?' They said, 'O god, you did order that, but you did not order to give to so-and-so. However, we still only prepare food.' Then, the Brahmin King Misradatta went to where the Blessed One was, and upon arriving, he bowed his head to the feet of the Blessed One, and then sat to one side. Having sat to one side, the Blessed One taught the Brahmin King Misradatta with words in accordance with the Dharma, and made him very happy.

Then, King Brahmin Maitreya-datta touched the feet of the Blessed One with his head and prostrated, and said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, I have erred! Sugata, I have erred! How foolish I have been! How deluded I have been! How unwise I have been! How imprudent I have been! I have done such a thing, inviting the Blessed One and the Sangha of monks, and for three months, they have been dwelling in a place where there is nothing (to eat). Vinaya-vastu, Volume Thirty-eight. Blessed One, if my mistake can be forgiven, and I recognize it as a mistake, I beseech you to accept my repentance with compassion, and acknowledge it as a mistake." Great King, your admission of the offense is true, but how foolish you are, how deluded you are, how unwise you are, how imprudent you are! You invited the Tathagata for three months, and yet they dwell in a place where there is nothing (to eat)? Great King, because you recognize your offense, and having recognized it, you repent, then your virtuous dharmas will not decline, but will only increase. Great King, why is that? Because if someone recognizes their offense, and having recognized it, repents and corrects it, then their virtuous dharmas will not decline, but will only increase. Then, King Brahmin Maitreya-datta said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, for the Sangha of monks, I will, for as long as I live, provide robes, food, bedding, and medicine, and other necessities of life. Please allow me to do so." The Blessed One said: "Great King, the life of the Tathagata is short, and there are many beings to be tamed, and the time of Nirvana is also approaching, so I cannot grant you this." 说此语已。（世尊）祈请道：世尊，若与比丘僧众一起，明日于我处应供，请垂允。此后，世尊心想：我若连此（人）之一食亦不应允，则国王婆罗门火施（者）或将吐血而亡，此情势是存在的。世尊如是思忖后，未作任何言语，即是应允。此后，国王婆罗门火施（者）知晓世尊未作任何言语即是应允，以头顶礼双足后，从世尊跟前离开，前往自己所居之处后，对众臣说道：贤士们，以何善巧能使此所有饮食为佛陀等比丘僧众所享用？彼等说道：天神，将此所有饮食遍撒于地上，若比丘们以足践踏，则如是便能完全享用。其对以残食为生者们吩咐道：贤士们，所有食物，无论有多少，皆遍撒于地上！彼等将所有食物遍撒于地上。此后，国王婆罗门火施（者）从当日夜晚起，便准备干净且具功德之食物与饮品等，如是等等，直至世尊于比丘僧众之午餐时，安坐于所设之座，皆如前述。不久，一位老比丘生起不悦
