Then the Blessed One went to Cākara and stayed in the thorny forest at Cākara. King Pasenadi of Kosala heard, "The ascetic Gotama, while wandering in Kosala, has arrived at Cākara and is staying in the thorny forest at Cākara." Having heard this, he instructed a man, "Go, my good man, go to where the ascetic Gotama is. Having gone there, bow with your head to the ascetic Gotama's feet in my name, and inquire whether he is free from affliction, free from illness, healthy, moving about easily, and experiencing strength and comfort, saying, 'Venerable Gotama, King Pasenadi of Kosala wishes to see the Blessed One tomorrow. May the venerable Gotama know this beforehand.'" That man, having agreed with King Pasenadi of Kosala, "As you command, sire," went to where the Blessed One was. Having gone there, he bowed with his head to the Blessed One's feet and sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, that man said to the Blessed One, "King Pasenadi of Kosala bows with his head to the venerable Gotama's feet and inquires whether he is free from affliction, free from illness, healthy, moving about easily, and experiencing strength and comfort." "May you and King Pasenadi of Kosala be well." "Venerable Gotama, King Pasenadi of Kosala wishes to see the Blessed One tomorrow. May the venerable Gotama know this beforehand." "Well, my good man, King Pasenadi of Kosala will come, and I will know when the time is right." Then that man, delighted and approving of the Blessed One's words, rose from the Blessed One's presence and departed. Then, not long after that man had left, the Blessed One addressed the venerable Ānanda, "Ānanda, go and have many seats spread out in a spacious hall, for I am to meet with King Pasenadi of Kosala today." "As you command, venerable sir," the venerable Ānanda replied to the Blessed One. He had many seats spread out in a spacious hall.

Then the Blessed One went to where the spacious lecture hall was, and upon arriving, he sat down on the seat that had been arranged. Then, King Pasenadi of Kosala was informed of this by that man, and not long after he went and said to another man: 'Hey, palace attendant, come here! Quickly prepare a fine chariot. Great king, ask whatever you wish. O Gotama, I have heard you say this: 'It is impossible for other ascetics or Brahmins to know or see everything; that is not possible, there is no opportunity, it does not exist.' Gotama, did you say that? Great king, I do not remember saying such a thing. At that time, a commander named Holy Birth was gathered and sitting in that assembly.
