For knowledge, one directs the mind towards manifestation, thereby fully knowing, as it is, with the mind of conceptualization and examination of other sentient beings and other individuals. For a mind with desire, one fully knows, as it is, that it is a mind with desire. For a mind without desire, one fully knows, as it is, that it is a mind without desire. For those with and without hatred, with and without delusion, collected and scattered, timid and grasping, small and large, agitated and not agitated, peaceful and not peaceful, concentrated and not concentrated, cultivated and not cultivated, mind liberated and mind not liberated, one fully knows as they are. For example, just as a person with eyes, having completely cleaned the center of a mirror, can discern the characteristics of his own face. Likewise, A mind in equipoise is completely pure, completely purified, without afflictions, free from near afflictions, upright, abiding in suitability, having attained immovability. To manifest the knowledge of the various aspects of the mind, one directs the mind towards the manifestation of clairvoyance, from "thus" to "the mind is extremely liberated, one fully knows as it is that the mind is extremely liberated," as mentioned before. This is called the foot. What is intelligence? Thus, a mind in equipoise is completely pure, completely purified, without afflictions, free from near afflictions, upright, abiding in suitability, having attained immovability. To manifest the knowledge of remembering past lives, one directs the mind towards the manifestation of clairvoyance. He remembers many past lives, for example, one life, two lives, three lives, four lives, five lives, six lives, seven lives, eight lives, nine lives, ten lives, twenty lives, thirty lives, forty lives, fifty lives, one hundred lives.

A thousand births, a hundred thousand births, countless hundreds of thousands of births, countless thousands of births, countless hundreds of thousands of thousands of births, a kalpa of destruction, a kalpa of formation, a kalpa of destruction and formation, countless kalpas of formation, countless kalpas of destruction, countless kalpas of formation and destruction can be remembered. Wherever I am born among these sentient beings, the name is this, the caste is this, the family is this, the food is eaten like this, happiness and suffering are experienced like this. The length of life is this much, the time is this long, the lifespan is this long. Then I die, transmigrate from there, and am born somewhere. Then I also die, transmigrate from there, and am born somewhere else. Then I also die, transmigrate from there, and am born here. Like this, together with the appearance, together with the region, together with the origin, one remembers the various past abodes. For example, a person goes from one village to another, and then goes to another village, and then he thinks like this: I have reached such and such a village from such and such a village. Then I also reached such and such a village. From that village I came to this village. Just like that, he abides in this way equally, the mind is completely pure, completely purified, without afflictions, free from near afflictions, upright, abiding in suitability, having attained immovability. In order to directly realize the direct knowledge of remembering past abodes, one directs the mind to this. He remembers the various past abodes. Like this, from "one birth" to "together with the appearance, together with the region, one remembers the various past abodes," it is the same as before. Vinaya-vastu, Volume Thirty-two. He abides in this way equally, the mind is completely pure, completely purified, without afflictions, free from near afflictions, upright, abiding in suitability, having attained immovability. In order to directly realize the direct knowledge of knowing death and rebirth, one directs the mind to this. He sees the death and rebirth of sentient beings with a pure divine eye that transcends the human eye.

And also sees the births of beings, the good colors, the bad colors, the inferior, the noble, and those who go to happy and unhappy destinies, and truly knows how beings approach according to their actions. These beings are endowed with misconduct of body, misconduct of speech, and misconduct of mind, slander the noble ones, hold wrong views, and take up the karma of wrong views. Because of that cause and that condition, after the body is destroyed and they die, they fall into bad destinies, bad migrations, and falling places, and are born in the hells of sentient beings. These beings are endowed with good conduct of body, good conduct of speech, and good conduct of mind, do not slander the noble ones, hold right views, and take up the karma of right views. Because of that cause and that condition, after the body is destroyed, they are born in happy destinies, in the heavens of the gods. For example, a person with eyes sits at the crossroads of a great road and sees a great crowd of people coming, sitting, lying down, and going in different directions. Likewise, with the divine eye, which is pure and transcends human power, from "they will be born in the heavens of the gods" as before. That mind, which is equally placed, completely pure, extremely purified, without defilements, free from near defilements, upright, abiding in suitability, having obtained immovability, turns the mind to the higher knowledge for the manifestation of knowing the exhaustion of defilements. He truly knows as it is, "This is the noble truth of suffering." This is the origin of suffering. This is the cessation of suffering. This is the noble truth of the path that leads to the cessation of suffering. Having known and seen in this way, the mind is completely liberated from the defilement of desire, from the defilement of existence, and from the defilement of ignorance. Having been liberated, he knows, "Birth is exhausted, the holy life has been lived, what had to be done has been done, there is no more after this existence," this is the wisdom of liberation.
