Because his relatives had great wealth, he thought, 'I have possessions, I should enjoy them, I should give alms, and I should accumulate merit.' Then he had this thought: 'I should go to where the Shramana Gautama is.' When he was about to set out, he thought again: 'Let me first see those old Shramanas and Brahmins, from Purana Kassapa to Nigantha Nataputta, as mentioned before. If they do not understand the questions raised by the mind, the questions analyzed in detail by the mind, if they do not understand at all, then what need is there to mention the Shramana Gautama, who is newly ordained and young?' Thinking this, he wanted to return, but then he thought: 'I should not despise a young Shramana because of those old, aged, eccentric wandering teachers of the past, nor should I scorn a young Shramana. I have heard that a young Shramana can also become very authoritative.' Thinking this, he went to where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, he made requests with his mind before the Blessed One, analyzing in detail with his mind, from 'How to view someone who pretends to be a friend when they are not' to 'How to attain freedom from illness,' just as mentioned before. Then, the Blessed One, knowing the thoughts of the wandering reed merchant with his wisdom, at that time spoke in verse: 'A friend who disparages others, saying that they are finished, and who does easy deceptive things, know that is not my friend. If one speaks untrue words to friends, and does not do what they say, the wise know that, such a person is pretending to be a friend when they are not. How to know who is a friend like oneself? Always careless, looking for opportunities with their thoughts, that is not a friend. Whoever here is like the heart, whom others cannot separate, that is a friend. Such a person is a friend like oneself. Why abandon them? Abandoning those who are cherished, only looking at the results, is'

It is a place to generate great joy. Meditate on the peace that is highly praised. Diligently meditate on this meaning. How can one obtain the inner absence? By knowing the taste of extreme solitude and the taste of near pacification, and drinking the taste of delight in the Dharma, one will become free from illness and sin. In this way, one can obtain freedom from illness. Then, the wandering reed merchant thought to himself: "The mind of the ascetic Gautama knows my thoughts." Having realized this, he said to the Blessed One: "Gautama, if I could obtain the state of a fully ordained monk by going forth and taking full ordination in the well-spoken Dharma and discipline, O Blessed One, I would practice the pure conduct in the presence of the ascetic Gautama." The wandering reed merchant went forth and took full ordination in the well-spoken Dharma and discipline, obtaining the state of a fully ordained monk. Having thus gone forth, the venerable one, from "his mind was completely liberated, and he became an Arhat" as before. Then, the Blessed One said to the venerable Ananda: "Ananda, let us go to the city of Red Sprouts." The venerable Ananda replied: "Venerable One, as you say." Then, the Blessed One, together with the community of monks, stayed near the King's residence, the luminous staff grove, in the center between the city of Red Sprouts and Rajagriha, near evening. Then, the Blessed One said to the monks: "Monks, because I and you alone have not known, have not seen, have not understood, have not individually realized these four noble truths, we have been running and wandering on this long path. What are these four? I and you alone have not known, have not seen, and so on, up to not knowing the noble truth of suffering, as before. I and you alone have not known, and so on, up to not knowing the origin of suffering and the path leading to the cessation of suffering, as before. I have followed and individually realized the noble truth of suffering, and by cutting off the craving for existence, the birth of samsara is exhausted, and now there is no other existence. Blessed

Having spoken thus, the Blessed One, having spoken thus, the Sugata, the Teacher further spoke thus: "It is only because I and you have not seen the four noble truths as they are that we have long wandered in samsara. Having seen those truths, having cut off the craving for existence, since the birth of samsara is exhausted, now there is no other existence." Having spoken thus, the Blessed One, those monks rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said. Then the Blessed One said to the venerable Ananda: "Ananda, let us go to the city of Rohitaka wherever it may be." The venerable Ananda replied to the Blessed One: "Venerable One, as you command." Then, as the Blessed One was traveling in the country of Magadha, he came to the city of Rohitaka. He stayed in the Rohitaka shrine of the city of Rohitaka. The Brahmins and householders of the city of Rohitaka heard that the Blessed One, having traveled in the country of Magadha, had come to the city of Rohitaka and was staying in the Rohitaka shrine. Having heard this, they gathered together, meeting from group to group, and sitting together, they came out of the city of Rohitaka and went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, they bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the Blessed One said to the Brahmins and householders of the city of Rohitaka: "Brahmins and householders, these five are the faults of heedlessness. Which five? Brahmins and householders, here, due to heedlessness, dwelling in heedlessness, one becomes deprived of great wealth. Brahmins and householders, due to heedlessness, dwelling in heedlessness, one becomes deprived of great wealth, this is the first fault of heedlessness. Brahmins and householders, furthermore, due to heedlessness, dwelling in heedlessness, evil, unpraiseworthy, and ill-reputed sounds and verses are spread in all directions. Brahmins and householders, due to heedlessness,
