Low becomes high. If the south is high, the north is low. If the north is high, the south is low. If the periphery is high, the center is low. If the center is high, the periphery becomes low. This world and everything in between are illuminated by a vast light. The gods also beat drums in the sky. The gods dwelling in the sky scattered divine flowers utpala, lotuses, kumudas, white lotuses, as well as powdered agarwood, powdered sandalwood, powdered saffron, powdered tamala leaves, divine flowers mandārava, and garments upon the Blessed One. When the Blessed One entered the city, such wondrous events occurred. Furthermore, narrow places became wide, low places became high, and high places became level. Elephants roared, horses also roared, and the best of cattle also roared. Various vessels placed in the house emitted sounds on their own without being struck. The blind regained their sight, the deaf heard, and the mute were able to speak. Those with incomplete faculties each regained their respective faculties. The intoxicated became sober, those poisoned were relieved of poison, those who were mutually hostile became friendly, pregnant women gave birth safely, prisoners were released, and the poor found wealth. Seeing such prosperity, a lay follower spoke in verse: In whatever land the lord of the world descends, there is no fear of famine, thieves, or foreign enemies. The gods send down rain, and beings abundantly perform virtuous deeds. There, hundreds of thousands of other wondrous events will also occur. Then, the Blessed One entered Rājagṛha, allowing beings to breathe easily, and leaving Rājagṛha, went to the Bamboo Grove. While dwelling in one place, the Blessed One, with speech in accordance with the Dharma, truly instructed the son of the Radiant Body, King Ajatashatru of Magadha, causing him to truly accept, causing him to truly praise, from truly rejoicing to remaining silent, as previously stated. Then, the son of the Radiant Body, King Ajatashatru of Magadha, deeply admired the words spoken by the Blessed One, rejoiced in his heart, and rising from his seat, bared one shoulder, and with palms joined, bowed towards the place where the Blessed One was, and spoke thus to the Blessed One: Blessed One, I wish to offer for three months, together with the Sangha of monks, robes, alms food, bedding, medicinal provisions, and all necessities. If permitted, I beseech you to accept. The Blessed One remained silent to the son of the Radiant Body, King Ajatashatru of Magadha, indicating his consent. Then, the son of the Radiant Body, King Ajatashatru of Magadha, knowing that the Blessed One had consented by remaining silent, bowed his head to the feet of the Blessed One, rose from his seat, and departed. The Blessed One, together with the Sangha of monks, received the offerings of robes, alms food, bedding, medicinal provisions, and all necessities from the son of the Radiant Body, King Ajatashatru of Magadha, for three months. In Vaishali, the affliction of human ghosts arose, and people reviled and fought with each other. In Vaishali dwelt a Brahmin named "Eloquent," who was the king's advisor. In his dream, a god dwelling in Vaishali said to him: If the supreme tamer and driver, the Blessed One, the master of speech of the Shakya clan, were to come to Vaishali, all calamities would be completely dispelled.
