and red pigment, and in red vehicles. Some were equipped with white horses, white chariots, white saddles, white whips, hair knots, umbrellas, white sword sheaths, jewel-handled whisks, clothes, ornaments, white pigment, and white vehicles, making loud noises and shouting loudly, "Come again, come again," coming from Vaishali. In order to see and attend to the Blessed One, they went before the Blessed One. The Blessed One saw the Licchavis of Vaishali coming from afar. Having seen them, he said to the monks: Monks, whoever among you has not seen the gods of the Thirty-Three (Trayastrimsa) going to the pleasure garden, look at these Licchavis of Vaishali! Why is that? Monks, the gods of the Thirty-Three also go to the pleasure garden with this kind of miraculous power, this kind of wealth, and this kind of attire, just like the Licchavis of Vaishali now. They went by chariot as far as the place where they could ride, and then got off the chariot and entered the Jetavana Monastery on foot. Then the Licchavis of Vaishali went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, they bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the Blessed One taught the Licchavis of Vaishali with Dharma-related speech, made them understand correctly, made them uplifted, and made them very happy. In many ways, he taught them correctly with Dharma-related speech, made them understand correctly, made them uplifted, and made them very happy, and then said nothing. At that time, a Brahmin boy, the son of Serkya, was sitting there with his retinue. Then the Brahmin boy, the son of Serkya, rose from his seat, draped his upper garment over one shoulder, and, with his palms joined together, bowed towards the direction where the Blessed One was, and said this to the Blessed One: Blessed One, I am Spoba. Sugata, I am Spoba. The Blessed One said to the son of Serkya: You, son of Serkya, are Spoba.

After giving such an order, the son of the Brahmin, Serkya's son, then addressed him in verse at that time: 'King of Anga, holder of a jewel armor, ruler of Magadha, having obtained great gain, the Buddha who appeared in that country, the sound of his fame is like a snow lion of Mount Kailash. Just as a beautiful lotus is well-born, the calyx opens, filled with fragrance, just as the sun shines brightly in the sky, look to the lineage of the sun. The wisdom and power of the Tathagatas, like a fire burning at night, that is the maker of eyes, the maker of light, subduing the doubts of beings. Five hundred Licchavis praised the Brahmin's son, Serkya's son. The Brahmin's son, Serkya's son, was well-spoken of. Therefore, for the sake of praise, five hundred upper garments were given. Then the Licchavis of Vaishali rose from their seats, draped their upper garments over one shoulder, and, with palms joined, bowed towards the direction where the Blessed One was, and addressed the Blessed One thus: 'Blessed One, if tomorrow you would come to my garden with the Sangha of monks, I will prepare a canopy for you. Venerable One, I was previously invited by the guardian of the mango grove. Venerable One, the mango guardian is inferior, of low wisdom, and has deceived us. Therefore, we should have beheld the Blessed One from the very beginning, made offerings, and paved the way from the beginning, but now we still wish to make offerings to the Blessed One and the Sangha of monks.' The Blessed One said to them, 'That place is well arranged.' Then the Licchavis of Vaishali were exceedingly pleased with what the Blessed One had said, and rejoiced in it. They bowed their heads to the feet of the Blessed One, and then departed from the presence of the Blessed One. The Brahmin's son, Serkya's son, was there. Then the Brahmin's son, Serkya's son, knowing that the Licchavis of Vaishali had not been long gone, rose from his seat, draped his upper garment over one shoulder, and, with palms joined, bowed towards the direction where the Blessed One was, and addressed the Blessed One thus: 'Venerable One, here I have five hundred Licchavis.'
