His fame increases. If one goes to gatherings without stinginess, then one will not be timid and will be without fear. Therefore, a wise person who desires happiness should abandon the stain of stinginess and give generously. Those ones dwell in the Thirty-Three Realms for a long time, rejoicing in equality with the gods. That generous giver, having passed away, wanders in his own garden of joy and light. There, the two of them play and make merry, endowed with the five qualities of desire. Having heard the words of the Unbound Protector, the Hearers of the Sugata rejoice in the higher realms. Then, the Blessed One instructed Amra's Guardian Mother with a Dharma-filled discourse, causing her to truly believe, truly praise, and truly rejoice, and then arose from his seat and departed. The monks, having arisen in doubt, asked the Blessed Buddha, who cuts off all doubts: "Venerable One, what deeds did the Licchavis of Vaishali perform, that if they are born among the gods, they become powerful gods, and if they are born among humans, they become powerful humans? Now, they are also shown as examples of the gods of the Thirty-Three." The Blessed One said: "Monks, the Licchavis of Vaishali performed and accumulated deeds of obtaining wealth, transforming circumstances, abiding like light, and not being consumed by demons. Who else will experience the deeds done and accumulated by these beings themselves? Monks, the deeds done and accumulated do not mature in the external earth element, nor in the water element, nor in the fire element, nor in the wind element. Thus, the good and bad deeds done and accumulated will mature in the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that have been taken. Deeds, even in hundreds of eons, will not be wasted; when the conditions and time are met, for embodied beings, they will become fruits. The supreme translator. (Homage verse) The teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha Bhagavan named Light Protector, has appeared in the world. He dwells near the hermitage of the Deer Park in Varanasi (ancient Indian city), accompanied by a retinue of twenty thousand monks. At that time, there were five hundred lay practitioners in Varanasi. They prepared merchandise to go to the great ocean, built a large ship, and gradually entered the great ocean. Later, a favorable wind carried them to the island of jewels. Then, they filled the large ship with jewels and set off. After that, the wind drove them to a certain place in the great ocean. They were terrified and hopeless, and for the sake of the perfectly enlightened Buddha Light Protector, they built a stupa out of sand and offered various jewels. Then, they fell asleep. A deity said, 'Do not be afraid, be mindful. On the seventh day, during the day, a tide will come, and it will safely take you to Jambudvipa (Earth).' After dawn, they began to talk and deliberate with each other: 'Wise ones, the fearlessness that the deity has shown us is the power of the perfectly enlightened Buddha Light Protector. It is not appropriate for us to take back the jewels offered to the stupa of the perfectly enlightened Buddha Light Protector and leave.' After they consulted, they began to pray: 'Whatever roots of virtue we have accumulated by serving the perfectly enlightened Buddha Bhagavan Light Protector, the supreme field of merit, if we are born as gods, may we become powerful. If we are born among humans, may we become powerful, and even if we are born as humans, may we be worthy of being examples for the gods of the Thirty-Three.' Monks, what do you think?
