Not doing the work of food, not because it cannot be found, but because it is completely pure, so it should be enjoyed, and there should be no regret about this. The origin of the story is in Shravasti (Jetavana). The Venerable Namgru got up early in the morning, put on his lower garment, and taking his robes and bowl, went to Shravasti to beg for alms. He gradually went to a street, and saw a spice merchant wiping a cloth and then touching brown sugar, so he said: Good man, do not wipe the cloth and then touch brown sugar. We must also enjoy it at the wrong time. He said: Who will often pour washing water for the saints? Another time, the Sangha obtained a piece of brown sugar, but he did not enjoy it. The co-residents and attendants said: Teacher, if you have obtained the Sangha's brown sugar, why don't you eat it? He said: Good man, this is mixed with food. They also did not enjoy it, and the monks said to them: Venerable ones, if you have obtained the Sangha's brown sugar, why don't you eat it? They said: The abbot said that this is mixed with food. They also did not enjoy it. That large group and the remaining food of the Sangha, most of them did not enjoy it. The monks reported this matter to the Blessed One. The Blessed One taught: Food does not do the work of food, not because it cannot be found, but because the householder is completely pure, so it should be enjoyed, and there should be no regret about this. The origin of the story is in Shravasti (Jetavana). The Venerable Shariputra was afflicted with wind disease, and the Venerable Great Maudgalyayana thought: I have personally taken care of the Venerable Shariputra many times, but I have never asked a doctor once, now I will go and ask a doctor. So he went to the doctor and said: Good man, the Venerable Shariputra has contracted this kind of disease, please prescribe a prescription. The doctor said: Venerable one, please put salt in sour porridge and eat it, and you will be cured. He found sour porridge, but there was no salt, so he began to look for salt. The Venerable Pilindavatsa said: Venerable Maudgalyayana, please give me enough salt to live on.

Has it been blessed? If the Blessed One allows, I will give alms." When the Venerable Shariputra heard this, he said, "Venerable Great Maudgalyayana, I think to myself, things held for life, if mixed with what is suitable for the time, should not be enjoyed." At that time, the Venerable Great Maudgalyayana reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One instructed, "Maudgalyayana, it should not be enjoyed. Whatever is suitable for the time, whatever is appropriate, whatever is for seven days, if it is mixed with what is suitable for the time, and if it has not been blessed, then what is mixed with what is suitable for the time should be enjoyed, and it should not be enjoyed beyond the time that is suitable. Whatever is appropriate, whatever is for seven days, whatever is held for life, if it is mixed with what is appropriate, and if it has not been blessed, then what is mixed with what is appropriate should be enjoyed, and it should not be enjoyed beyond the time that is appropriate. Whatever is for seven days, whatever is held for life, if it is mixed with what is for seven days, then what is mixed with what is for seven days should be enjoyed, and it should not be enjoyed beyond seven days.
