The venerable Gangpo addressed the Blessed One in this way: "Venerable Lord, Venerable Lord, I have heard from the Venerable Lord a concise Dharma. In what way can one dwell alone in solitude, diligently, and devotedly, relying on oneself? Please explain well such a concise Dharma. If one dwells alone in solitude, diligently, and devotedly, for what reason do sons of good families shave their hair and beards, don the saffron robe, and go forth from home to homelessness with genuine faith, practicing the unsurpassed limit of the pure life, realizing it in this very life through their own direct knowledge, and understanding that my birth is exhausted, the pure life has been lived, what needs to be done has been done, and there is nothing further for this life?" After he had spoken thus, the Blessed One said to the venerable Gangpo: "Gangpo, well done! Well done! Gangpo, it is good that you speak thus, from 'there is nothing further for this life' up to 'please explain well such a concise Dharma,' just as before. Therefore, listen well and keep it in mind, and I will explain. Gangpo, there are forms that are cognizable by the eye, that are beautiful, desirable, pleasing, agreeable, filled with desire, and cause complete attachment. If a monk sees these and becomes greatly delighted, greatly praises them, is especially attached to them, and dwells with special clinging, then complete delight arises in those great delights, great praises, special attachments, and dwelling with special clinging. If complete delight arises, there will be joy and mental ease. If there is joy and mental ease, there will be complete attachment. If there is complete attachment, there will be complete bondage. Gangpo, a monk who is filled with joy, complete attachment, and complete bondage is said to be far from liberation. Gangpo, sounds cognizable by the ear, smells cognizable by the nose, tastes cognizable by the tongue, and tactile sensations cognizable by the body...

That which can be touched by earth touch, and the Dharma that can be recognized by mind, are pleasing, attached, joyful, agreeable, desirable, possessed, and completely attached. If a monk knows these, from "knows" to "far from Nirvana," as previously stated. The form that can be recognized by the eye is pleasing, attached, joyful, agreeable, desirable, possessed, and completely attached. If a monk sees these, does not manifest joy, does not manifest praise, does not particularly attach, does not particularly cling and abide, then for those who do not manifest joy, do not manifest praise, do not particularly attach, do not particularly cling and abide, complete joy will not arise. Without complete joy, there will be no joy and mental pleasure. Without joy and mental pleasure, there will be no complete attachment. Without complete attachment, there will be no complete union. Without complete union, a monk who does not possess joy, complete attachment, and complete union is close to Nirvana. The sound that can be recognized by the ear, the smell that can be recognized by the nose, the taste that can be recognized by the tongue, the touch that can be recognized by the body, and the Dharma that can be recognized by the mind, are pleasing, attached, joyful, agreeable, desirable, possessed, and completely attached. If a monk knows these, from "knows" to "that is close to Nirvana," as previously stated. Capable one, if I instruct you with this concise teaching, where do you want to dwell? Where do you want to settle? Venerable one, the Blessed One has instructed me with this concise teaching, I wish to go to the border of the place where barley grows. Capable one, the people on the border of the place where barley grows are violent, cunning, rude, abusive, short-tempered, and slanderous. Capable one, if the people on the border of the place where barley grows openly, evil gathers

They scold with harsh words without exposing faults, they revile, they mock. What do you think of that? Bhikshu, if the people of the borderlands where Grozhin (place name) is born, openly do not scold me with harsh words exposing faults, revile, if they mock, then I think this: Alas, the people of the borderlands where Grozhin is born are tolerant! Alas, the people of the borderlands where Grozhin is born are wise! They do not scold me with harsh words exposing faults, revile, mock, but they do not strike with hands or feet, the people of the borderlands where Grozhin is born start mocking from being called cruel. As mentioned above, if the people of the borderlands where Grozhin is born strike with sticks or weapons, what do you think of that? Bhikshu, if the people of the borderlands where Grozhin is born strike me with sticks or weapons, then I think this: Alas, the people of the borderlands where Grozhin is born are tolerant! Alas, the people of the borderlands where Grozhin is born are wise! They strike me with sticks or weapons, but they do not completely deprive me of life! The people of the borderlands where Grozhin is born start mocking from being called cruel. If the people of the borderlands where Grozhin is born completely deprive me of life, what do you think of that? Bhikshu, if the people of the borderlands where Grozhin is born completely deprive me of life, then I myself think this: The Blessed One said to the Shravaka disciples, this body is a body of pus and blood, for those births, shames, and slanders, they also stab with weapons, also eat poison, also hang themselves with ropes and die, also jump from cliffs and die. Alas, the people of the borderlands where Grozhin is born are tolerant! Alas, the people of the borderlands where Grozhin is
