He wrapped three pieces of sandalwood sacred earth in cloth, took one in his hand, and went to the king. The king said, "Gampo, is there a little sandalwood sacred earth?" He said, "Yes, Your Majesty. How much is this worth?" "One hundred million gold coins." "Is there anything else?" "Yes, Your Majesty." He showed all three pieces, and the king ordered the ministers, "Give Gampo four hundred million gold coins." Gampo said, "Your Majesty, please give three hundred million. One hundred million I will offer to Your Majesty, and three hundred million to me." After giving three hundred million, the king said, "Gampo, you are very pleasing to my heart, ask for whatever you want and I will give it to you." "Your Majesty, if I am pleasing to your heart, I pray that in Your Majesty's land, no one will bully me." The king ordered the ministers, "Knowledgeable people, from now on, you should teach the young people, but not Gampo." How many were there? About five hundred merchants, having built a great sea vessel, arrived like a city of Śrāvastī. The merchants made internal rules: "None of us should leave the group alone to go to the merchants. If they go, they will be fined sixty kārṣāpaṇas (ancient Indian currency units). Even if they are extorted, they must go together to get it back." Some said, "Is Gampo also a beggar?" Some said, "What's the use of a beggar begging from him?" At that time, when Gampo came out, he heard that about five hundred merchants had built a large ship from the great sea and had come like a city of Śrāvastī. The god merchants have made a law that no one can do business alone, but he did business alone.' He said, 'God, when they made the law, did they tell me or my brothers?' Thus he pleaded.
