The son of the earth only did the service. The daily practice of King Prasenajit of Kosala was to rise early in the morning, prostrate at the feet of the Bhagavan, and then visit the sick monks. Once, a certain monk was afflicted with hemorrhoids, and he became pale, emaciated, weak, and debilitated by illness. King Prasenajit of Kosala saw him and said: Venerable one, why are you pale, emaciated, weak, and debilitated by illness? O god, you are afflicted with hemorrhoids. Then the king commanded the physician king, the son of Ever-Knowing: Treat this monk. O god, as you command. Because he did not believe, he did not do it. Once, the king saw the monk again and said: Venerable one, did the son of Ever-Knowing treat you? O god, he did not. Then the king became angry and, sending a messenger, summoned the son of Ever-Knowing and commanded: If you treat this monk, that will be good. If you do not, I will curtail your authority. He, being naturally unbelieving, became greatly agitated and said: For this shaven-headed ascetic, will the god curtail my authority? So he had that monk placed at the gate of Prince Jeta's garden for renovation, and from then on, he began to do the work of a blacksmith. Then that monk, feeling fear, apprehension, and harm, experiencing painful, unbearable, and disagreeable feelings, thought: I feel fear, apprehension, and harm; does the Bhagavan not notice? In this case, the Buddhas, the Bhagavats, have no lack of knowledge, no lack of sight, no lack of understanding, and no lack of complete knowledge. Then the Bhagavan, impelled by great compassion, went in that direction. The physician king, the son of Ever-Knowing, saw the Bhagavan going in that direction. Having seen him, he bound him with intense malice and said to the Bhagavan: Ascetic, son of a slave woman, come here! Look at the split buttocks of the Hearer. Then the Bhagavan turned back from there, went to the monastery, and sat down on the prepared seat. Having sat down, the Bhagavan smiled.

Yes. This is the law, that when the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, smile, blue, yellow, red, and white rays of light emanate from their mouths, some going downwards and some going upwards. Those that go downwards reach the reviving hell, the black line hell, the crushing hell, the howling hell, the great howling hell, the hot hell, the very hot hell, the uninterrupted hell, the blister hell, the bursting blister hell, the chattering teeth hell, the kyi hud hell, the a chu hell, the hell that cracks like an Utpala (उत्पल, utpala, blue lotus), the hell that cracks like a lotus, and the hell that cracks like a great lotus, and for those sentient beings who are in the hot hells, these rays bring coolness. For those sentient beings who are in the cold hells, these rays bring warmth. These rays pacify the different kinds of suffering of those sentient beings. They think, 'Wise ones, have we died and transmigrated from here? Or have we been reborn elsewhere?' In order to make them generate faith, the Bhagavat sends forth an emanation. Seeing the emanation, they think, 'Wise ones, we have neither died and transmigrated from here, nor have we been reborn elsewhere, but by the power of this sentient being whom we have never seen before, our different kinds of suffering have been pacified.' They develop great faith in the emanation, thereby exhausting the karma of experiencing hell, and then they take rebirth among the gods and humans, who are vessels for seeing the truth. Those that go upwards reach the retinue of the Four Great Kings, the Thirty-three, the No Strife, the Joyful, the Enjoying Emanations, the Controlling Others' Emanations, the Brahma retinue, the Brahma Assistants, the Great Brahma, the Small Light, the Immeasurable Light, the Clear Light, the Small Virtue, the Immeasurable Virtue, the Extensive Virtue, the Cloudless, the Merit-born, the Great Fruit, the Non-Great, the Non-Afflicted, the Not Appearing, the Very Visible, and the Akanishtha gods, proclaiming the sound and words of impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness.
