Saying "I am going to die," he healed him, and that person lived. He said: Abbot, for what reason did I renounce, will I obtain that meaning? He said: Son, have you realized Arhatship? Abbot, no. Well then, have you realized the fruit of Non-Returner, the fruit of Once-Returner, or the fruit of Stream-Enterer? Abbot, no. I renounced because I wanted to die, now I have lived. He said: Son, where are you going? Abbot, I am going to die. He said: Good man, for what reason did you renounce in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, in order to obtain any one of the four fruits of a contemplative, are you going to waste the alms given in faith and create suffering improperly? He treated his words as non-words and left. Knowing that he had done this, he gave the physician leaves, flowers, fruits, and toothbrushes. The physician said: Good man, what do you want from me? He said: I don't want anything, but because I know that I have done this, I give you leaves, flowers, fruits, and toothbrushes. He said: Good man, what have I done to you? I wanted to die, and you healed me. He said: I don't remember. I will make you remember, and after he made him remember, the physician said: Good man, for what reason did you renounce in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, in order to obtain any one of the four fruits of a contemplative, are you going to waste the alms given in faith and create suffering improperly? The physician thought: This is just my job, I think I will go to the Blessed One. Then, the young physician Jivaka went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, he bowed his head to the two feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the young physician Jivaka said this to the Blessed One:

Solto. Venerable ones, these sons of good families are ordained and receive full ordination. Venerable ones, before long, the king's treasuries and granaries will become depleted, exhausted, and used up. My body will also become weak, and the virtuous qualities of the venerable ones will also completely decline. Alas, for the sake of compassion, may the Blessed One make some regulations so that the venerable ones do not ordain and give full ordination to sons of good families. It would be excellent. The Blessed One did not say anything to Jivaka Kumara Bhacca in response to his request, thus granting his consent. Then, Jivaka Kumara Bhacca, knowing that the Blessed One had granted his consent by not saying anything, bowed his head to the two feet of the Blessed One and departed from the presence of the Blessed One. The Blessed One thought: Whatever faults have occurred, it is because the monks are ordaining sick people. Therefore, he taught: Therefore, monks should not ordain sick people. If someone comes to someone desiring to be ordained, that person should ask him if he is sick. If he ordains him without asking, he will commit a serious offense. The Buddha Bhagavan was dwelling in the Nyagrodha Park in Kapilavastu. At that time, when the Blessed One was ordaining one person after another from the homes of the Shakyas in Kapilavastu, their relatives would gather to them and teach them the Dharma. After hearing the Dharma, they would immediately be ordained. As a result, some Shakya women lost their fathers, some lost their husbands, some lost their householders, some lost their brothers, and some lost their sons. Overwhelmed by sorrow, they would cry out in lamentation at the time of dawn. King Suddhodana, at the time of dawn, heard the sound of many Shakya women crying out in lamentation. Having heard this, he said to the Shakyas: Wise ones, why are so many Shakya women crying out in lamentation at the time of dawn? They replied: God, these venerable ones

(Because) they ordain sons of good families who have not been permitted by their parents, and they grant them full ordination. Some Shakya men had their fathers tonsured, some their uncles, some their husbands, some their maternal uncles, and some their sons ordained, and they were oppressed by sorrow, and at the time of dawn in the night, they cried out with pitiful voices. King Śuddhodana thought: This is entirely my affair, I will go to see the Blessed One. Then King Śuddhodana went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, he bowed his head at the two feet of the Blessed One, and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, King Śuddhodana said this to the Blessed One: Blessed One, I should receive something excellent. Sugata, I should receive something excellent. Great King, the Tathāgatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Ones are beyond excellence, what excellence do you want me to give you? What is easily attained by the noble ones? If it is easily attained, I will give it. Venerable one, when the Blessed One was born, I thought that the Blessed One would become a universal monarch, and I would walk in the sky and follow you throughout the four continents, and therefore I had no small amount of happiness and joy. Venerable one, when the Blessed One renounced the world, my hope that you would become a universal monarch was lost. Furthermore, I had hoped that this beautiful youth would become a universal monarch by his power, but when the beautiful youth renounced the world, my hope that he would become a universal monarch by his power was also lost. Furthermore, I had hoped that this melodious and well-remembering youth would become a truly powerful king, but when the melodious and well-remembering youth renounced the world, my hope that he would become a truly powerful king was completely lost in every way. Venerable one, moreover, parents are very fond of their sons, Venerable one, these noble ones ordain sons of good families who have not been permitted by their parents, and they grant them full ordination.
