Are you willing to live your life reverently relying on discarded medicine? He should answer, "Willing." If you can find ghee, sesame oil, honey, molasses, things that are suitable for the time, things that are suitable for the occasion, things that last for seven days, or medicines to be kept for life, such as root medicine, stem medicine, leaf medicine, fruit medicine, or any other suitable medicine, obtained from the Sangha or an individual, you should also take it in moderation. Are you willing to commit to such precepts? He should answer, "Willing." This is the account of the dwelling places. Next, the dharmas that lead to downfall are to be spoken. Listen, you who are called "so-and-so." These four are the dharmas of downfall spoken by the Bhagavan, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, the Knower and Seer, for a monk who has thus gone forth and taken full ordination. If a monk commits these, he immediately ceases to be a monk, ceases to be a Shramana, ceases to be a son of the Shakya, he will be lost from the status of a monk, his practice of Shramana will be destroyed, lost, defeated, fallen, and his practice of Shramana will be irretrievable. For example, if the head of a palm tree is cut off, it cannot turn green again, nor can it grow, flourish, and expand. What are the four? Desire, attachment to desire, infatuation with desire, and excessive attachment to desire are condemned by the Bhagavan in many ways. 3A Abandoning desire is praised, discarding, giving away, exhausting, being free from desire, cessation, pacification, and extinction are praised, honored, lauded, and praised. Venerable one, from now on, you should not even look at a woman with lustful eyes, let alone engage in sexual intercourse, practice impure conduct, and cultivate the dharma of lust. Venerable one, the Bhagavan, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, the Knower and Seer, said that any monk who is with the monks

If, because the precepts are the same, one does not abandon the precepts, does not break the precepts, practices impure conduct, relies on the Dharma of intercourse, even with a being born in the animal realm, then that bhikshu is defeated and should not reside [with the Sangha]. This was spoken by the Tathagata. If a bhikshu engages in such conduct, then immediately upon doing so, he is no longer a bhikshu, no longer a shramana, no longer a son of the Shakya, and will fall away from the reality of being a bhikshu. His practice as a shramana will be destroyed, diminished, broken, defeated, and fallen. His practice as a shramana will be irretrievable. For example, if the head of a palm tree is cut off, it cannot turn green again, nor can it grow, flourish, or expand. From now on, for you, abandon what is not conduct, what is not to be done, and what has not been done. With mindfulness and vigilance, strive to diligently guard your mind. How should one not engage in such conduct? It should be said that he should not engage in it. Venerable one, listen. Taking what is not given is condemned by the Bhagavan in many ways. Abandoning taking what is not given is praised, honored, lauded, and spoken of favorably. Venerable one, from now on, do not take even a sesame pod from another with a thieving mind, not even five mashakas, let alone more than five mashakas. Venerable one, the Bhagavan, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Complete Buddha, the Knower and Seer, said: 'Again, if a bhikshu dwells in another's village or monastery and takes what belongs to the category of taking what is not given, then because of how much he has taken that is not given, the king or a great minister seizes him and says to him: "Hey, you are a thief, a child, a fool, a robber!"' Then they kill him, or bind him, or flog him. If a bhikshu takes what is not given in that way, then that bhikshu is also defeated and should not reside [with the Sangha]. This was spoken by the Tathagata. If a bhikshu engages in such conduct, then immediately upon doing so, he is no longer a bhikshu, no longer a shramana, no longer a son of the Shakya, and will fall away from the reality of being a bhikshu.
