Whatever you obtain from the Sangha or an individual, you should be mindful and moderate. Do you vow to abide by such a precept? He should say, 'I vow.' Listen, you who are called so-and-so. Among foods, it is easy to obtain and acceptable to live on alms. If one dwells on that, then for a monk, ordination and full ordination in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya become the requisites of a monk. You who are called so-and-so, are you willing to live on alms for as long as you live? He should say, 'I am willing.' If you obtain more, such as rice, porridge, noodles, five portions, eight portions, fourteen portions, fish, regular turns, invitations, impromptu invitations, fried dough, or any other acceptable food, whatever you obtain from the Sangha or an individual, you should be mindful and moderate. Do you vow to abide by such a precept? He should say, 'I vow.' Listen, you who are called so-and-so. Among dwellings, it is easy to obtain and acceptable to live under a tree. If one dwells on that, then for a monk, ordination and full ordination in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya become the requisites of a monk. You who are called so-and-so, are you willing to live under a tree for as long as you live? He should say, 'I am very willing.' If you obtain more, such as a house, a teahouse, a multi-storied house, a cool room, a place surrounded by mud walls, a balcony, a mansion, a cool room above the gatehouse, a curtained room above the house, a curtained room, a grass-covered house, an earthen cave, a rock cave, a mountain cave, a grass hut, a leaf hut, a place used as a meditation place, a place not used as a meditation place, a place used as a bird shelter, a place not used as a bird shelter, or any other acceptable dwelling, whatever you obtain from the Sangha or an individual, you should be mindful and moderate.
