Do not face east or south, towards the lower reaches of the valley. If it is absolutely necessary, put shoes under the pillow. When wearing a hat for the first time, avoid tilting it, as this is the key to auspiciousness. A new bowl should not be placed upside down for five days. Also, it is said that if you drink tea from a kapala (Tibetan: ཀ་པཱ་ལ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: , Sanskrit Romanization: kapāla, literal Chinese meaning: skull) bowl, the color will turn blue. It is said that drinking tea from a Jobu (Tibetan: ཇོ་ཕོར།) bowl brings good fortune. Drinking tea from an iron bowl makes the eyes clear. Drinking tea from a porcelain bowl tastes better. It is said that eating too many sheep hearts diminishes all the merits of the Dharma. To test whether various drinks are poisonous, put in a rabbit's whisker. If the tip bends, it is poisonous. To test whether food is poisonous: cut the food with a knife that has no oil. If it sticks to the knife, it is not poisonous. Eating butter from a hundred cows improves the body's radiance. After that, when keeping a horse for the first time, one should think of the horse as the best precious horse. If you take good care of the horse, it will be helpful to you. Then, when riding and walking, when the horse first neighs, perform a lungta (wind horse) raising ritual, and luck will flourish. Also, sleeping while walking is a sign of low luck.

As the first drop of milk falls, simultaneously say, "May power increase and wealth accumulate like an ocean." When wealth is first acquired, say, "This is to repay kindness." Offer food mixed with salt and butter. When a sheep arrives for the first time, gather many kinds of grass and give it, saying, "May glory and auspiciousness increase." When a donkey brays for the first time, say three times, "You are right." By doing so, it will be pleased and helpful. If the first dung of a bull is applied to the wall inside the cattle pen without letting it fall to the ground, one will surely find an item of equal value within a month. When a dog arrives for the first time, smear barley flour on its forehead. When a monkey arrives for the first time, beat it slightly. When a cat arrives for the first time, put a handprint on its forehead. When a bird arrives for the first time, feed it immediately without waiting until it is full. If it is a male bird and it crows for the first time facing southeast, it will not die. If it crows facing north, one will achieve accomplishments and great wishes. When a parrot arrives for the first time, placing the "Manjushri Namasamgiti" (藏文：《འཇམ་དཔལ་མཚན་བརྗོད།》，梵文天城体：मञ्जुश्रीनामसंगीति，梵文罗马拟音：Mañjuśrīnāmasaṃgīti，汉语字面意思：The Chanting of the Names of Manjushri) on its head is more beneficial than keeping an "Amchö" (藏文：ཨ་མཆོད་，a type of sacrificial food). If one catches a pigeon, smear butter on its head and release it. Otherwise, it will utter a malicious curse. It is said that throwing stones at or scaring crows and black dogs, etc., violates the oath of Mahakala (藏文：དཔལ་ནག་པོ་ཆེན་པོ།，梵文天城体：महाकाल，梵文罗马拟音：Mahākāla，汉语字面意思：Great Black One), resulting in great misfortune. Similarly, it is appropriate for the Tsen (藏文：བཙན།，a type of local deity) not to harm red birds and red dogs, etc. Because human hands have heat that diminishes vitality, when catching lively animals, one must cover them with cloth, etc., before catching them. It is said that if this is not done, the vitality of any animal except eagles and hunting dogs will diminish. When associating with a new person, first ask where that person is from.
