If one does not understand, one will not stray into the Exoteric Vehicle. If one does not meditate on the wisdom of the Dharmadhatu, the pride of the divine power of miracles, the five kinds of enlightenment, one will not stray into the mind of Yoga. If one does not meditate on the aggregates, elements, and sense bases, the many names of the collection of thoughts, as deities, one will not stray into Maha Yoga. If one does not dwell in the completely pure space, the power of the non-dual wisdom of great bliss, without gathering or scattering, without mind, one will not stray into Anu Yoga. Thus it is said. Although this has clarified all meanings, to make it a little easier to understand, I will explain: If one follows whatever thoughts arise in the mind and accumulates good and bad deeds, one will stray into being an ordinary person. Therefore, by looking at the nature of thoughts, letting them subside on their own, and not following them, one is liberated. If one thinks, "It is not right for thoughts to arise in the mind," and blocks thoughts, then nothing moves in the mind, and one dwells in that state, not even knowing its nature. If the five senses are not clear, one will stray into dull quiescence. Therefore, one should not deliberately block movement, but look at the nature of whatever arises. If there is no memory or thought in the mind, and one does not see one's own nature, but sits relaxed, one will stray into non-virtue. Therefore, one should look at one's own nature without being distracted. Even if one does not see one's own nature, the gross movements of the mind will not move. The body is filled with the bliss of one-pointedness of mind, like a lamp that is not moved by the wind. If one is bound by even a small attachment to this, one will not see the wisdom of insight. Moreover, as the clinging to characteristics increases, one will stray into the first, second, third, and fourth dhyanas. In this state, the samadhi is immovable, like an ocean that is not moved by the wind. Whatever bliss and clarity arise, one should not be attached to them, but look directly at their nature. Then one will clearly see the nature of quiescence as emptiness. By realizing that quiescence and insight are distinct but not different, one is liberated, and the power of samadhi is perfected. If one thinks that the mind is permanent, solid, and indestructible, or if one thinks that the mind is empty, that there is nothing, without such clinging, but looking at one's own un fabricated nature, one will not stray into permanence or annihilation. If one deliberately blocks thoughts and only meditates on non-conceptual wisdom, one will stray into being a Hearer. Therefore, one should not block thoughts, but meditate on whatever arises in one's own nature, with arising and dissolving occurring simultaneously, like water and waves, and thus be liberated.

If you stop the scattering of external objects of conceptual thought and place the inner awareness on the essence of emptiness, you will stray into self-birth and self-destruction; if you do not block the conceptual thoughts of the six external consciousnesses, but let them arise and dissolve on their own, then you can eliminate (the fault). Blocking all lower tenets and establishing one's own system as inexpressible through scripture and reasoning; focusing the mind solely on the certainty of emptiness; again, establishing all internal and external phenomena as emptiness through scripture and reasoning, and merely generating a clear certainty of it, and then remaining in that state, is clinging to the mere distinction between the two truths of conventional and ultimate, and is a dry understanding; cultivating the uncorrected original purity of self-awareness without clinging to the union of emptiness and the two truths, thus eliminating (the fault). If one believes that the wisdom deity is invited from the outside and requests blessings for oneself as an ordinary person, one will stray into externalist mantra; if one is certain that one's own mind is the Buddha, one will not stray there; if one clings to signs such as mantras, mudras, and deity yoga; and if one meditates on the outer and inner worlds as the mandala of the deity, etc., if one is not separated from clinging, then that is Maha Yoga; if one knows that all of this is merely a magical display of the mind, like a rainbow in the sky, one will be liberated; if one believes that the channels, energies, and drops of the body are originally the mandala of the deity, and clings to one's own continuum as substantial, then that is a straying point; if one knows that all of this is without self-nature and unborn, one will be liberated; in short, whatever one clings to, that is bondage; therefore, the view and meditation of Dzogchen is supreme; if one thinks that my meditation is the pinnacle of the vehicle, uncreated, beyond mind, one will be bound by the clinging of certainty; as it says in the "Resting the Mind in its Natural State": "Do not think, be free from all desires." By practicing in this way, one can cut off all the wrong paths of view and meditation; next are the wrong paths of conduct: if one does not understand the meaning of the five poisons being the five wisdoms, the three poisons being body, speech, and mind, etc.; if one indulges in the five poisons in one's own ordinary continuum, that is the view of the black, unrestrained demons; if one abandons the five poisons, that is the Hearers and the lower vehicles; if one looks at the nature of the five poisons, they will appear as wisdom; even if one realizes that the nature of the mind is emptiness, one thinks that the mind is empty like the sky, and there is no benefit or harm from virtue or vice, so one does not practice virtue and does not abandon vice, that is the empty view of Hwashang, the empty-view Hadapa; even if one realizes the view like the sky, one does not...
