Jem! Whatever virtue is accomplished, strive to eliminate it. Also, to eliminate illness, evil spirits, and obstacles: When you think, "The pain of the illness is unbearable," look at the nature of that thought itself and rest in equanimity. This is more effective and virtuous than meditating when you are well, and it eliminates obscurations more thoroughly, so the illness will become easier to heal. Regarding the harm of evil spirits, look at the nature of the thought, "This is harming me," and be liberated into emptiness. Since the root of evil spirits is conceptual thought itself, if conceptual thought is liberated in its own place, then the evil spirits will also be pacified. The obstacles to samadhi are two: sinking and excitement. For sinking and dullness, it is said to praise the way of looking, tighten the body, and bring out the energy of awareness to meditate. If excitement is strong, it is said to relax the body and mind and meditate. However, the main thing is to nakedly look at the nature of whatever arises, whether it is sinking or excitement, and seeing it clearly as emptiness is more effective. Because there is no abandoning or adopting, no removing or placing, the uncorrected state itself is the actual practice. If there is no love and compassion, even if you realize the view, it is Hinayana. Practice love and compassion, and do not separate it from the essence of emptiness. If you have definitely realized the view, then compassion will spontaneously arise for sentient beings who have not realized it in this way. Therefore, you should also make vast aspirations to benefit sentient beings. Although there are emptiness and compassion, if you do not practice the deity of the yidam, there is no difference from the practice of the sutras. Therefore, meditate like a rainbow arising in the sky from emptiness, and by not separating it from the essence of emptiness, it will transform into the union of generation and completion stages. If you cannot do that, gather the generation stage into emptiness and rest in emptiness. In this way, at the beginning of all virtuous activities, generate the mind of aspiring to attain perfect Buddhahood for the sake of all sentient beings. During the main practice, whether it is the union of shamatha and vipashyana, or the union of generation and completion stages, or the union of bliss and emptiness, or the union of clarity and emptiness, etc., practice them without separation. Finally, seal it with a dedication of merit for attaining enlightenment, so there will be no obstacles or wrong paths. Furthermore, our Great Perfection is the pinnacle of the nine vehicles, so it is liberated from all wrong paths. However, if you do not understand its true meaning and there is a slight deviation in understanding, there is a great danger of many wrong paths arising. If you recognize the three—mind, arising, dwelling, and going—without establishing their shape and color, then the body will...

If one thinks that the mind is empty like the sky, and therefore there is no basis for the accumulation or existence of good and bad karma, then one has strayed into the view of the materialistic non-Buddhists. Although the essence is emptiness, pure like the sky, one should know that the dependent arising of cause and effect is infallible in appearance. Furthermore, if one clings to the partial benefits of the accumulation of merit, and thinks that Buddhahood can be attained through other causes and conditions, then one is mistaken. One must understand that the root of the Great Vehicle Vajragarbha, the Tathagatagarbha, inherently exists within oneself. If one does not understand this, one is called an outsider within Buddhism. If one believes that there is something inherently existent, permanent, and substantial, such as Kuntuzangpo, in the center of the heart, then one has strayed into the self-view of the non-Buddhists. Therefore, one should know that the Tathagatagarbha, Kuntuzangpo, is beyond existence and non-existence, permanence and annihilation, and that is what is meant by Kuntuzangpo. By recognizing the root of all samsara and nirvana as the mind, if one thinks that the mind, the agent of liberation from existence and non-existence, is something immutable, then one has strayed into the eternalist view of the non-Buddhists. Therefore, one should know that the mind is free from existence and non-existence, arising and ceasing, and has no truly established entity. Because everything is recognized as the mind, if one clings to the notion that everything arises from the mind, that the mind is the result, that conceptual thought is fabricated, and that awareness is wisdom, then one has strayed into the view of self. Therefore, one should know that all dharmas are the self-manifestation of mind itself, the inseparability of cause and effect, self-knowing, without inner or outer boundaries or center. If one clings to the deity as something substantial, and believes that offering to the deity brings happiness and not offering brings suffering, then one has strayed into the non-Buddhist view of Ishvara. Therefore, one should know that the deity is the play of the mind, self-arisen, unborn, non-dual, and self-liberated. Furthermore, some people think that they can purify obscurations through bathing and cleansing, and therefore are enthusiastic about cleaning temples and other external things, boasting themselves as practitioners. If one studies external knowledge, one can understand it; but the essence of the mind, the Tathagatagarbha, is very subtle and difficult to realize. Now many people say that the current distracted mind is indeterminate and not the cause of Buddhahood. This is actually following the non-Buddhist view of the all-pervading Lord. One should know that by cultivating this current nature of mind, extraordinary realization can arise. In Dzogchen, it is said that mind and rigpa abide separately, and so on.
