Thus it was said that even the lower philosophical schools of the inner teachings say that one does not realize it. As it says in the Dohakosha: "Those who are separated from that bliss, who are skilled only in physical asceticism, who are called monks, bhikshus, and elders, having renounced in that way, some explain the meaning of the sutras, some are seen holding the nature of one-pointed mind, some practice the Great Vehicle. All of those are treatises explaining the scriptures." Thus it is said that not only the Characteristic Vehicle does not realize Mahamudra, but also the lower tantric vehicles say that one does not realize it. As it says in the Dohakosha itself: "Furthermore, some meditate on the complete mandala wheels, some enter the ground of peaceful meaning, some appear to realize the edge of space, others contemplate emptiness. Mostly they have entered an incompatible path. By what other than co-emergent separation, what nirvana is meditated upon? None of those will accomplish the ultimate truth of oneness. Whoever has faith in what, will they attain liberation by abiding in meditation? What need is there for lamps, what need is there for offerings? What need is there to do anything for that, what need is there to rely on secret mantras? What need is there for going down steps, what need is there for asceticism? Will one attain liberation by entering the water? Whoever enters emptiness devoid of compassion, that one will not find the supreme path. However, even if one meditates only on compassion, one will not attain liberation from this samsara. Whoever is able to combine the two, will not abide in samsara, nor will they abide in nirvana. Alas! Abandon that which is said to be false and blinding, and let go of whatever you are attached to." Thus it is said, and the meaning of those was clearly stated by Orgyen Rinpoche (Padmasambhava): "Alas! Listen here, fortunate sons, the great sound called mind. Because of not realizing this, because of wrong thoughts, biased thoughts, and not realizing it as it is, inconceivable desires of philosophical schools arise. Those ordinary common people, not realizing their own face, not knowing themselves, wander in the three realms and experience suffering. That is also the fault of not realizing one's own mind. External heretics think wrongly, falling into the extremes of permanence and annihilation. That is also the fault of not realizing one's own mind, in the immeasurable places of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas."

Wanting to realize but not realizing as it is, moreover, each of their own doctrines and tenets, bound by attachment, the clear light cannot appear, obscured. Hearers and solitary realizers are obscured by clinging to the apprehended and the apprehender. Madhyamikas are obscured by clinging to the extremes of the two truths. Kriya Yoga is obscured by clinging to the extremes of practice. Maha Anu is obscured by clinging to the expanse of awareness. Clinging to duality in the meaning of non-duality is mistaken. If non-duality does not become one, one will not become a Buddha. In all things, in one's own mind, in samsara and nirvana without distinction, wandering in samsara by means of the vehicle of abandoning and adopting, discarding and taking. Thus it is said. In Ganga Mala it says: Reciting mantras and the Prajnaparamita and, the Vinaya, Sutras, Pitakas, etc., with each of their own doctrines and the extremes of tenets, the clear light Mahamudra cannot be seen. Attachment arises, then the clear light cannot appear, obscured. With the protective vows of conceptual thought, the meaning of the samaya deteriorates. Not thinking in the mind, free from all attachments, self-born, self-pacified, like letters on water. Not abiding, not focusing, not deviating from the meaning, then the samaya does not deviate, it is a lamp in the darkness. Free from all attachments, not abiding in the extremes, then all the Dharma of the Pitakas will be seen. Thus it is said. So, how is it that there are so many places to go astray? Answer: Because the self-aware, co-emergent wisdom of the Kagyu Dzogchen has not been realized. If the face of Dzogchen Trekcho is well matched, then all the places to go astray will be cut off at once. In the Definitive Meaning Samucchaya it says: Just as the sun rises without the obscuration of darkness, realizing the meaning of the self-born Dharmakaya, then mistakes, obscurations, objects, and mind are purified from the root. All Dharmas are the Bodhikaya that does not need to be removed. Thus it is said. In the Vast Expanse of Space it says: In this very nature of knowing, not meditating on anything, right now, not grasping concepts, the clear light of, wisdom is transparent, without deterioration. Thus it is said. In that very one it says: Not following after arising sensations, then one will not go astray in the place of ordinary worldly people. Since the consciousness of the five gates does not cease, then one will not go astray without concepts. Holding the meaning of profound wisdom, then one will not go astray in the unshown place. Not clinging to the taste of tranquility, then one will not go astray in the place of mind-holding meditation. Not meditating on the realm of existence and non-existence, then one will not go astray in the extreme of permanence and annihilation. Not abandoning conceptual thoughts, self-pacified, then one will not go astray in the cessation of the Hearers. Not meditating on the emptiness of the cessation of thoughts, then one will not go astray in the mind of the Solitary Realizers. Not meditating on self-awareness for a moment, then one will not go astray in the Madhyamika two truths. Not meditating on the Samadhi of the four joys, then one will not
